Window tints - were my expectations too high?

Hi guys.

Some advice if possible..........

I had the windows done by Pentagon yesterday. They came highly recommended by some on here, and I have to say that the guy I spoke to could not have been more helpfull when I called to arrange the job. Also provided a courtesy car and helped out when we had car seat issues with that, so all boded well.

However..............

I have to say that I am not overly pleased with the results. I went for the supaglass in midnight from the B-pillar backwards, and light smoke on the front windows. I was hoping (expecting!) the finish to look like the windows would do if I had specced them as a factory fit, however 1 window looks very obviously like it is an aftermarket job, with what i can only describe as bubbles between the film and the glass. While these are not immediately obvious to the casual observer, when viewed from a certain angle they can certainly be seen.

The film is alo visible around the heating element in the back screen and the rear-most side windows (small ones at the back).

Is this to be expected with the thicker supaglass film and were my expectations therefore too high, or should I complain? Tried to call today but he was out until tomorrow.

Many thanks in advance.
Thumbs Up
AH

Aled,

In case of the bubbles, they need to put that right. In case of the aftermarket looking like factory, I'm not sure where you read that on here, but I went for factory tints purely because you can't get the same look from aftermarket

i agree bubbles should not be in the film, they may have been caused by the windows not been fully cleaned and a small specks of dirt been left under the film.

with the heating element they can never get the same as a factory fit one, due the the factory fit glass is tinted itself. also the element is not flush with the glass, its fitted to the surface, so the film will have very tiny bubble along each edge of the element

the main thing is, if your not happy, give them chance to sort it Thumbs Up

I would consider complaining but wait a day or two first as the bubbles sometimes go after a few days, I remember when I had mine done and that was the case.

As for the heating elements I'm affraid that is something you'll get used to, my personal opinion is you should have gone light smoke all the way round.

Good luck for the morning. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I had factory spec to the b pillar and have just had 70% tint done on front windows - in terms of quality can't tell the difference - I wouldn't be happy with bubbles and can't believe that is acceptable...

Post some pictures to show us what the overall impression is like - maybe that's good enough??

No to bubbles - lines around the elements to be expected..... this is why I have held off, expectation that they cannot get it spot on Sad

They can strip and re-apply apparently....

Out of interest, what happens if you break your factory tinted window? Can you get a new tinted one from the factory?

Hi Aled,

I've had Pentagon Supaglass 'installed' on several cars now (from Head Offfice Acton Branch) and the results have always been fantastic.

On 2 occassions that I can remember I have taken the car back due to minor bubbles and they have always sorted it immediately, without any fuss. What I would say is that some of the smaller bubbles may go after a week or so and they might ask you just to wait and see how if it improves (if they are fairly central in the window then it's unlikely they will disappear of their own accord).

You're right in thinking that the finish of the rear window with the heating elements won't be quite as good as the side windows due to the raised heating elements and the black 'bubble' effect that you get on the edge of smaller/side windows sometimes causes minor problems, however you should still be 100% satisfied with the overall result IMO.

I used to be heavily involved in another forum a few years back and helped negotiate a pretty healthy forum discount for all members. We also arranged a live demo for members down at Acton to see just how effective the supaglass film is and we all came away deeply impressed - both from a safety and security perspective!

Hope this helps!

Thumbs Up JT

I had mine done a few weeks back and noticed some bubbles shortly after the film was fitted. I mentioned it to the guy who fitted it and he said to give it a few days and see if they were still there. He said they would happily fix it if the bubbles remained. Two days later they were completely gone and the window tints are fantastic.

With regards to the heater elements mine are visible but then I had no expectation of them being hidden completely. When I was comparing another site members tinting to mine it was apparent that the factory fit does a better job of hiding the heater elements but ultimately they are there and can be seen.

Should you still not be happy with the results I am confident Pentagon will happily rectify this for you. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

interesting. Ive never used pentagon on any of the cars. I was always told the inflated price was because they did it properly (with a heat gun around the dot matrix) to get it to bond to it properly but by the sounds of it they pretty much do the same procedure as everyone else. Luckily i opted for it as an option with the car this time. WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

they would most likely class that as vandalism and make you pay the standard excess for that type of claim

or charge the glass excess for each window
