I am going to change the Michelin's that I have on the Sport and was down with my friend who owns a tyre depot. he was saying about fitting 275x45x20 tyres this time as he has done it to various different 4x4's for improved comfort. has anyone else fitted this size of tyre and if so was there any difference. plus they are £10 cheaper per tyre as well! result!

Be careful with this as your speedo may now read slow - which is illegal btw - and the tyres may foul the bodywork on tight turns when the front suspension is compressed.

You are also changing the tyrewall stiffness and may risk rolling a tyre of the rim if you are in the habit of really hard cornering.

You should really go down a width if increasing the profile - so 265/45/20's would be a closer match.



Incidentally - I would be interested in seeing photos of those 30" wheels... LOL

275/45/20 will be fine

Just make sure the load rating is ok for the RRS.

The stock tyres are 255/50/19 = 29"dia. The optional MTRs as used by LR for the G4 challenge are 255/55/19 = 30" dia. Your new 275/45/20 = 29.7"dia.

There are a few in the US using 285/50/20 all-terrain tyres with no problems.

I had 275 (not sure about the second dimension but will check for you) 20" tyres fitted as standard on TDV8...

sheers ther is very little difference in the overal rolling radius and if 22" rims can fit no problems these will go on perfectly! thanks guys new tyres on Monday then!

There is a 4% difference in rolling circumference (and therefore speedometer reading) - so you should be OK, assuming your current speedo is more than 4% fast (which it probably is).

However, the argument about 22" wheels is a red herring, as 22" wheels fitted with 285/30 tyres is almost exactly the same circumference as 275/40/20 (just 2 mm difference).

It's your car, your licence and your life at the end of the day, so if you're happy to take a risk to save a tenner go for it (but I like to think tyre sizes are specified by an engineer who has spent much time, research and deliberation suggesting the optimum package and I'd rather trust their judgement )

Might be worth checking with your insurers as well, as I know of someone who had a claim rejected because he didn't have manufacturer approved tyres on his car.

True but Land Rover themselves say 22" wheels are not suitable for the sports suspension. I was onto Overfinch who also say that the sport is not suited to 22" wheels but they fit most 22" wheels have 35 profile so I cant see too much problem but your right to say check first thanks!

Insurers should be informed as it is a modification to the vehicle...........you could argue they will never know.....but then if you should have a serious prang and then they send a vehicle examiner out, it could be a very expensive error of judgement. TDV6 - gone
