For no particular reason other than my current alarm is ancient and Im having problems getting it serviced I am thinking of a new alarm system for the house.

If anyone can help with the following Id be appreciative

1) Is a monitored system really worth it?
My worry is paying £20 a month if not more for some OAP in a call centre somewhere miles away to eventually make a call to another OAP in a Fiesta to maybe take a look after his tea break. I dont expect an ex special forces guy with an alsatian to rush round immediately but you get the idea.

2) Local guy or national?
If a local guy fits it then thats got to be better for supporting my local business community and aftersales hasnt it? Or is it better to not have local knowledge of your home security just in case?

3) How can I make sure the fitters are honest?
There are multiple trade organisations, do any insist their guys are CRB checked and are any even worth it?

4) Are any types of system better or worse than others?

5) Is a CCTV option worth bothering with?
I can see a few by Logitech on the cheap. The probs here are that I run Mac and also cant guarantee to have a computer always powered up

6) Any recs for quotes in South Yorkshire?

might be worth speaking to your insurance company to see if they can recommend somebody

also no point in going over the top with a linked up system if they don't discount or see the one you choose as worthy

Insurance companies can be quite particular when it comes to things like this
