The knocking noise affects some cars fitted with dynamic response and is not a 'dangerous' fault or symptomatic of impending failure - it is no different from your engine making a noise when it's working to be honest! It may be irritating to some people of course, but in a way it is reassuring that it is doing its job and working properly if you can hear it!
Bigger wheels add unsprung weight and increase stress on the suspension components as well (the tyres are considerably heavier even if the wheels may weigh the same). Also, the lower profile wider tyres completely change the suspension characteristics - hence the harder ride: The tyres are part of the spring on a car and if you drop the profile by 30% you also increase the stiffness by at least the same amount - this will transmit much more shock loading to the suspension components - increasing wear and maybe even causing failure in extreme use. Suspension design is a very precise science and manufacturers spend millions getting the right balance of durability, handling, and ride comfort - why would you want to screw all that investment up for the sake of a bit of frivolous bling?
OK - so go and find the alternative that has as much visual appeal, is as capable on and off-road, and doesn't have any faults... Landcruiser Amazon anyone... |

Incorrect usage of a fairly modern term. Allow me to correct you. Fan boys are people who long for something they don't possess. they will often hang around with people associated with the item of their desire. We're Range Rover Sport owners, not fan boys. Very important difference you seem to have missed. Given you don't own an RRS and have been hanging around on here since 2007 I would suggest there is at least one "fan boi" on here!
