Need Convincing

hi all

after much thought and research, im on the cusp of buying a 05/06 rrs, looking to spend 25-30k. however i need convincing on a few points. ive read on the net that the rrs has been voted as the least reliable luxury 4x4 on the markey today!

there seems to be many problems with the rrs, the most common being the air suspension bottoming out and then needing resetting which can only be done by a dealer at an extortionate cost.

so i just wanted to know how members on here have found reliability with the rrs, also what would you say "real world" mpg figures are on a TDV6

many thanks for your help

My recently purchased 06 TDV6 seems to do a steady 26/28mpg, mainly motorway driving each week.

Haven`t been on the forum long, but haven`t come across the air suspension issue yet so can`t help you with that part.

cheers
Andrew

p.s. Am so glad I bought my RRS Thumbs Up

Where did you read that? Confused all lies lol.

Earler (ie 05 and some 06) cars did have issues with the compressor, but that has been sorted out a while back. The only other possible issues are knocking suspension on cars with dynamic response, egr valves, epb and the turbo (tdv6) has been redesigned a few times.

Apart from the DR noise, the rest of the more common issues should have been resolved on any RRS that was properly looked after.

Don't buy a LR if you want something as reliable as a Lexus - there are plenty of RRS with very high mileage that have never needed anything other than routine servicing but there are some that seem to have been put together by monkeys.

Check the history and you should be fine Thumbs Up

i guess i'll opt for a 06 tdv6, heard its cheaper to tax, anything after 07 is higher road tax.

also will be looking to get the tesco finest warranty once the manufacturer warranty expires, so if anything does go wrong i should be covered.

Yeah that was a nice bonus for me too - £200 instead of £400 for tax, will also be heading to tesco finest warranty when mine runs out Thumbs Up

Val, you will find there are people on the forum who are on their 2nd one.

All I can say is from personal exp and our has been faultless in a little over 3 years and c.34k miles.

I suppose you either fall in love with it or you don't.

We test drove all the competition, including the FFRR and opted for the Sport above all the others and have no regrets whatsoever.

In fact, at the end of this year/early next year we will buy our 2nd Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Val101, I am one of those on their 2nd RRS. First was a TDv6 SE that I bought off the dealers showroom floor on launchday. I had some small problems but nothing that was as bad as you make out or that spolied the ownership/driving pleasure, I did 21000 miles in 2.5 years with it and averaged 27/28mpg.
In Oct 2007 I bought a new TDv8 which is now 18 months old, has done 17000 miles and average 27-28mpg. It has had no mechanical faults/ failures or defects to the running gear at all, but I did have the rattling front suspension which has so far remained quiet after replacement of the front bushes also at the first service the fridge was replaced under warranty as it would not cool. Everything was repaired under LR warranty. There are people who have had problems, but then my brother in law has had to demand his money back on two BMW 3 series because they spent more time in the dealership workshop than on his drive - every car maker has problem cars at some time or another. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I think that as long as the car was registered prior to 23 March 06 it takes advantage of the lower rate otherwise its £405 and £435 next year. (Mine is an '06 post 23 March and unfortunately I have always had to pay the higher amount).

Good luck.

Was very happy with mine, no major issues and the little issues I did have were quickly and easily remedied under warranty.
