M$ Outlook corrupt pst file

My works pc has a corupt pst file, basically 3 unread emails, that can not be read/deleted and will not download anymore email

I have followed the scanpst.exe route which M$ Outlook provides, but this is going through the whole repair route, which then gives the "not responding" message as soon as I tell it to repair the files it has found. Gone down the renaming route and renaming the outlook.bak file to a pst, but this also has corupt file too

Is there any aftermarket programs that could save me 4 years worth of email and data that any of your have tried

Npinks, i had this once and the problem was to many emails and if you have 4 years worth then i can see why, try and archive as many as possible to a PST file this will give outlook chance to breath, worked for me Thumbs Up

How big is the pst file - i recall 2gb was too big for the version of outlook i was using when i had a problem - i too found deleting mail had little impact - the footprint of mail must have been too small. From memory i sorted mail by file size and deleted / saved the larger atachments AND did an archive. I was told - but never verified - that newer outlook versions can handle pst's over 2gb....

if you still cannot delete the apparent corrupt mails try moving them to another folder and deleting there... that rings a distant bell....

Good luck

the pst file is 1.75gb

The other pc i had recovering it failed too.

I have just been transfering email mail folder to a pst along with my contacts and then changed the faulty pst file name and then started afresh with a empty folder

Then imported each of the folders which seems to have worked, appart from the inbox, which i decided to leave along as that has way too many emails in, and if i haven't filed them into a separate folder it means they ain't needed.

Thanks for the PM Leedsutd, i shall try that tomorrow Thumbs Up

here is a help site for Outlook, I had a problem with a stuck read receipt and had to delete it directly from the PST file not through Outlook.

Did you get this sorted Nick?

Pre-Outlook 2003 PST files had a limit of 2GB. The limit is now much larger, but it's not entirely safe keeping the last x years emails all in one file. There are other tools out there that will attempt to fix PSTs where scanpst does not. Let me know if whatever LeedsU has suggested doesn't work Thumbs Up

i have managed to save all my important folders Very Happy by exporting each folder one by one, then reimported them into a new outlook pst.

but have lost my inbox at the moment, which was full of stuff that didn't really need anyway

The program i got from Leedsunited, did save all my emails, but crashed due to the amount when converting them into a new pst. I can go through and read them but the couldn't delete them to make it smaller, i am using its other method at the moment in converting them to .eml files and see if they can be brought in that way.

So i think its all sorted as such, main ones saved, inbox would be a bonus, but delete most of it anyway

must delete more often Embarassed

Thank for all your help and advice on this one Bow down
