So what's the deal with this? They come loose such that the rear hatch might become dangerous?

No it’s a bit more serious that that really. Where the strut mounts onto the body of the car at the “D” pillar, there is a securing captive nut inside in the pillar. This nut seems to break free under certain conditions & falls down into the bowels of the pillar. The “official” fix seems to require a hole being chopped in the pillar to gain access to where the nut should be, so a new one can be welded in place. Then the hole in the pillar needs to be patched, which will require filling & painting. Quite a mess really. So what “they” are saying is to check the “tightness of your nuts”, so as to prevent “breakage” !! Have a look at their technical forum, you can’t miss the thread, I think it’s 6 or 7 pages at this stage. I do think though that the RRS set up is a little different, but could be well worth checking. |

Oh sorry about the shock of a serious post there Supertrotter. I’ve been living too long over there in “D3 World” but I’m getting treatment, so everything should be ok by the time I’m a fully fledged resident here in RRS Land in June. |

Yep - another thing to mention during the 12k service I think my car's going to be in for a week, with the amount of things that need doing along with the service.

12k isn't it? Of course, my service book is in Australian and says 12km - but I thought my sales chap had said the first service is 12k miles or 1 year, whichever came first. It's definitely the case for the wife's FL... hmm, now you've muddied the waters, RRUK!
