Winch Options

Am thinking of doing some semi serious off-roading with the Rangie for family trips and will often be on our own without a second support vehicle.

As such I think a winch will be an essential for self rescue.

I called Trivett's in Sydney today and was informed that the official Land Rover winch was $4345 which seems excessive to me given it is only rated at 9000lbs when you can buy some great aftermarket ones with a 12,000lbs spec for around $900.

Anyone know which manufacturers make something to suit the Rangie and any pitfalls with mounting etc I need to be aware of.

As always, many thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Cheers

jimmy - Unfortunately you are finding the 'rape and pillage' attitude of Land Rover Australia when pricing their accessories locally. Is the 4.5k is for just the winch or does it also include the mounting place and mantec sump guard?

VA had the official land Rover G4 winch fitted to his UK RRS so he can hopefully comment on it's performance

I have not actually seen a RRS in Australia (or pictures of) that has either the official LR winch , or a 3rd party modification fitted. There are only a few of us that actually get off the tarmac seriously, so would be happily surprised if one had been done down here!

The G4 winch for the RRS is a Warn XP9.5 and yes it's only 9000lbs. In the UK these cost about £800. You are better fitting another make and probably best place to ask which one is on the disco3.co.uk forum. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Do you mean the Winch plate or the sump guard? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Yes they are. The underguard is about £400, the mounting plate is the difficult thing to get - I got mine off ebay and just sold it onto Lespes. I think you can get the winch & plate as a kit but it'll cost about £1650.00. The other option is to contact RLD on disco3 - he might be able to knock up a mounting plate at a reasonable price. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
