We were already heading to the barringtons north of the Hunter to give the Rangie a workout but now I've found this little excursion, I'd be happy to postpone that trip until the snow arrives in Winter. If you're looking for somewhere in the middle of MLB/SYD - batemans bay could be ideal. Here's some info on what is around http://www.openroad.com.au/travel_4wd_trac...nhouse.asp Cheers Jimmy 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6 |

I've camped down around Bawley Point before which was fantastic. Big open grassy sites plus some mod-cons. Easy to get to and good access to most of the region.

Ivery absolute valid point. We have an enquiry open to the mariners hotel in Batemans Bay http://www.marinerslodge.com.au/ We have asked for 8 doubles and we have to speak to them tomorrow. If we go with this, is everyone happy, we need someone with some knowledge of the local 4wd options, but it seems Jimmy is a good hunter of such info. The alternative is we delay it for another time, and i will most probably head up the hunter for the easter weekend, let me know if that is of interest to any of you.. we can get Jimmy to show us around locally. Thx for volunteering me Zilch While I can certainly handle organising a very special tour of some lovely independent wineries you may not normally include on your Hunter Wine Tour (several are clients) I have only done very limited 4wd'ing around here. You could however easily put together a great Easter tour with some fantastic day trips combining the best of off-roading with some more relaxing activities. Example tour: Thursday night: Arrive at accommodation, late supper and drinkies to help send everyone off to sleep Friday: Day tour 1 - Watagan State Forest, take a picnic lunch and enjoy some fire trails, easy to moderate tracks, then descend to Wollombi Valley for a drop of the famous Doctor Jurds Jungle Juice at the historic Wollombi Tavern then back to Pokolbin for dinner Saturday: Short morning bash around the top of the vineyards climbing over the ridge line of the Brokenback (no - not brokeback) ranges then back down to visit two/three wineries in the afternoon. Dinner at another great local restaurant. Sunday: Easter Egg Hunt over Stockton Sand Dunes, Lunch at Birubi Tavern, Local Winery at Port Stephens then return to Vineyards for light supper with private wine tasting (aged wines and ports) and special cheese tasting from the Smelly Cheese Company (another client). Monday: Check out in the morning, then on through Wollombi to Mt Yengo. Some great 4wd tracks through here. Stop at Devils Rock look-out for picnic lunch then more 4wd'ing over Mount Yengo. Those heading back to Sydney can head South while those Northerners can head back out onto the main road to the Freeway or back via the Hunter. I can probably organise some special bulk buy rates if people want to stock up on some good vino and Smelly Cheese Co. will also likely do some great prices for us if you want to indulge. With so much on hand, those who plan on bringing partners who don't want to indulge in as much off-roading can spend some time enjoying the other great indulgences such as the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company, Golder Door Spa or the myriad of galleries. Let me know if this is of interest as it will take some time to set it up properly. Accoms could b an issue at Easter but I can quickly get some options together this week if there is enough interest. 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6 |
