Window Tinting

Afternoon all

I have been thinking of getting the rear and boot area windows tinted on my Stornoway RRS and have come across a company called SunGuard in Stockport. They seem very knowledgable after having a quick chat with the technician, and I have been quoted £250 + vat.

Has anyone used them and have any feedback, or do you know of a reputable company in the Manchester area?

Also, he offered me a choice of 5 tints ranging from very light to limo (completely black). Have no desires to look like a pimp Wink so was erring towards the lighter shades, but again any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thumbs Up

Thanks

AH

Aled, I used Pentagon and although they weren't the cheapest the job they did was brilliant.

2 1/2 years here in Cyprus summers and it still looks as good as the day they did it.

Is it just me or does Cyprus Summers sound like a porn name.... Confused Not a bad place to spend 2 1/2 years in that case Laughing Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Aled, have you tried stealers?
They will provide someone who normaly does the tints for them and hence to me it sounds like more guanteed quality.
Agree with Supertrotter that Pentagon are brilliant as well. Thumbs Up Plus they operate in Manchaster if I am not mistaken...

Aled,
pentagon are just outside Manchester and quoted me £500 for the security film which I would have thought was a more cost effective option especially in Manchester. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Pentagon are best quality, but you pay for it.

If you take it to the dealer, they'll only outsource it to someone and charge you a margin on top.

Aled,

There's a guy called tinttek or tektint in Stockport. He's been in the auto glass business for 10yrs. He did the rear windows on mine in Dec cost about £180. Excellent job have no complaints totally sound guy.

Try looking him up in the Yellow pages, if you can't find him there PM me and i'll dig his number out.

Thanks for the advice.

Pentagon seem to be the way forward, especially as they have just quoted me £230 inc vat for the b pillar backwards for the tinted film, or 350 + vat for the supaguard (to include the front windows in a clear film).

Seems a good price indeed!!

I'll probably go for the supaguard at that price, but does that have any implications in a crash if the emergency services are trying to cut you out/break the windows to get to you?

Also, it seems the supaguard is a thicker film - does anyone have it on theirs, and if so, is it obvious that there is a protective film on the inside of the glass??

Cheers

AH

Hi Aled,
If you go on their website you can see how to push it out or break it from the inside but can't remember to be honest how the emergency services would cope if its not already smashed.
Bonus is in a roll over it would keep you inside the car as it keeps the glass intact,my wife came close to losing her arm when she rolled her Dis Censored ery.
You've got a much lower price than me, is that a special Manc only discount Wink
p.s.They told me it was too thick to put on the rear door window because of the heating element but would be OK with the normal thin film.

Aled, if you get clear security film installed, which in generall is about 10 times thickers as standard film (any make) you can not see it at all...
Now in terms of crash it is two fold.
As Chris described, I also rolled a car with security film on and was lucky enough to be without any scratches and hence could push the window out.
Though in terms of rescue team getting in is bit of an obstruction and make cause delays when you definitelly not need them.
So it is a trade off, as allways... Thumbs Up

Price wise, 350 + VAT just for two front windows? Are they reteculous? You can get it for half the money...

Coko
I think the £350 is for tints on the back windows but including clear on the fronts so £350 is a very good price. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.
