iPhone built-in iPod volume

I don't connect my iPhone to the aux yet but today at Heathrow I picked up a useful book "The Independent Guide to the iPhone 3G" it is for the UK version of the iphone. ISBN is 1-906372-28-4 Cost £5.99.

There are loads of user tips in the book but one of the first I came across is this
" Playing Safely - Perhaps in an effort to forestall legal action brought on by irresponsible user who play their music too loudly, Apple has implemented a Volume Limit feature in the iPhone's audio system" I wonder if this is why people using the cable connection via the Aux input socket in the RRS report poor sound quality?

The cure for this is in your 3g iPhone :
Click Settings and drag the screen down to Ipod,
Click on Volume limit and slide the switch over, according to the book you can set the the level the volume will top out at through the Volume Limit entry on the same screen, to lock the limit click on Lock and enter a 4 digit code
On mine the Volume limit was set at midpoint on the slider.
Using the EQ control you can also change the equaliser settings to get a better reproduction quality 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

mine was off. Im the type of person who goes through all the settings when i get something new so i probably noticed it straight away.

ps. using EQ setting uses more battery. WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

That volume limit has always been in place on Euro-spec iPods I believe (and thus the MP3 playing technology in the iPhone) - even my old G2 from 38 years ago has it. It was possible then to remove the limit with a software hack if I remember.

I don't believe the US-spec iPods have it though... ironically, given the litigious nature of your average septic.

VW, thanks for the tip about the EQ and battery, not that I use the EQ! I don't have much music on my iphone, I have downloaded 48 talking books from Audible.co.uk to mine but haven't yet resorted to listening to them in the car. I really bought my iphone for the ability to access my email when I'm away - I now only need on piece of kit and one charger when I go away instead of iPod and charger, phone and charger, laptop and charger, camera and charger. OK so the laptop is still a useful thing to take away, but what I do now is transfer the files I need to a remote hard drive or a couple of large USB memory sticks and can use them in my PC in my office on the ship. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The iPhone has a mic on the headphone cable, does this mean that I can't use it for video out like on my iPod?
does it output video on the bottom connector?
just got my iPhone on saturday and fiddling with it ...
When I connect my iPod to my amp I get the music and playlists but no video options, the wife's one is about 6months newer and I get full video options through the amp, will try the iPhone later.
The iPhone connects to the RRS through the iPod dock, it charges and plays back fine, also connects via bluetooth as the phone Thumbs Up Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

it had 2.2.1 on it already, only got the 8Gb model, when I looked at my iPod and seen it had about 40Gb of music on it decided that the iPhone wasn't going to match that.

When docking it with the car it says that it is not supported, it works fine tho, with music through the car dock and phone through the car's bluetooth Thumbs Up Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh
