MPG TDV8

Hi there, I am currently driving a FFRR TDV8 from Landrover assist as my Sport has broken down in Carlisle. My sport is a TDV6 which is giving me around 25.5 mpg around town and 32 mpg on a run. The FFRR is giving me around 22MPG around town. I am thinking of changing to the TDV8 in the sport so would be interested in hearing the figures any TDV8 sport drivers are getting. Also see there may be a 3.0l coming out, any news when??

I have a 2007 TDV8, and am getting about 24.6 - 24.8 pretty consistently so far (have only had it a few months though). Mostly country driving - B roads with quite a bit of braking/accelerating around bends/villages/hills etc. It's better on mway but have never seen 30 on MPG figure there yet. I think there's another MPG thread on the forum somewhere - worth searching for it to see other peoples findings which from memory varied quite a lot. Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

I get between 26 and 28mpg in day to day driving (I don't commute to work so it's all fast A roads and only a tiny amount of city driving.) I regularly drive from Scotland to Southampton and London - the best I have seen over 460 miles without refuelling until I get to 1/4 tank remaining (usually around Gaydon Warwicks) is 33mpg
and normally on the run I can get 32.5 easily, getting any better is difficult - making it worse is dead easy if I start to play at boy racers and it will fall back to 28-30mpg. It's never been any worse than my previous TDv6.
If I use supermarket fuel I get significantly less mpg. These figures are taken from an excel spreadsheet rather than the Trip Comp, which as afar as I am concerned reads about 0.5mpg better mpg - negligable error! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Interesting on the supermarket fuel comment - my local garage is Total and I have been feeding my RRS on their regular diesel (BS standard something). Will try their super-duper-whizzy diesel instead next few times and see if anything changes. Never thought I was driving my RRS like a boy racer though my wife may disagree... Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

Zeroed the fuel computer on the Disco3 the dealer had lent me and drove the 23 miles to pick up my Sport TDV8 via A and B roads. The Disco indicated 28.0mpg; returned the same route in the TDV8 which gave 32.9mpg. I'm happy with that.

Just did a 150 mile round trip to london - about 50 miles B roads and 100 miles motorway, and definitely not boy racer behaviour and got 29 mpg overall. Might just have managed 30 if all motorway so by the sound of things from other folks on this thread my car could probably do with a service and oil change to bump up that figure a few mpg. Ran smoothly and effortlessly the whole way - so much so in fact that even my wife now understands why we got a TDV8 and not the V6. Great engine. Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE, Buckingham Blue with Ebony Black

England

Just driven back from Notts to home (14 miles) and filled up with BP premium on the outskirts.
Then drove like a complete grandad at 50mph to see what was the best possible mpg.... managed 28.2.

Seemed boring to be fair but nice to know what is possible.

Not sure how much difference it makes but my TDV8 is chipped.

OK here's how economical it can be if you exercise some restraint on a long trip
These two are the trip computer readouts for my trip from Stirling to Gaydon on Thursday. My average speed would have been higher had I not got stuck in two slow moving queues of cars north of Brum, the fuel consumption might have been a little worse without them, but I don't believe I would have seen worse than 0.1mpg over the trip length. I did have a couple of blasts in excess of the speed limit (it's amazing how fast Toyota Prius's can go when they try!). On long trips like these I prefer to set the ACC at 72 (so indicated speedo reading is 70) and relax rather than blast all the way and worry about getting speeding points

And from Gaydon to the hotel at Heathrow after topping up at the Gaydon Filling Station - I have had better when I have driven from Gaydon to The New Forest, it fell off a bit bcause I didn't follow the instructions from SWMBO in the dash board and drove too far rounda roundabout outside LHR and ended up adding about 10 miles of stop start driving getting back to where I missed the turn!

Looks like I need to do some dusting on the dash/ top of the steering column cladding! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Wow, I was reading you all's results and getting scared I was having a problem with my RRS. I am only getting 11-11.5l/100km, driving around here in Switzerland, not really speeding, mostly 80km/hr and 50km/hr roads. Then I realized I was converting this incorrectly because you are all using the IMP MPG, which is very different from the US MPG I was using.

So, 11.2l/100km = 25.2 MPG (IMP) = 21 MPG (US)

This is cold weather (-7 in the morning), and with a 1/200 mix of 2-stroke semi-synth oil in the tank.

I think I can do this better, as I am not driving particularly economical.

Tim - your "check engine" light is on. Maybe LR should also install a "check your life" light (with a suitable "bong") for anyone who achieves more than 28mpg in a TDv8. That new light would remind the driver that they are in control of a fine vehicle, with superb handling, a fantastic engine, capable of thrilling all onboard across any road in any conditions. And prompt said driver to consider whether they want to make use of those abilities - or trade her in for a gas sipping, worthy, light weight, nun mobile which might do 50mpg plus.....
