Fuel Flap nightmare

Whilst on loan to a family member the fuel flap opening mechanism has been damaged on my RRS.
Quite inexplicably the individual concerned didn't realize you only need to push the flap in for it to pop open.
So instead they decided to use a key to prise it open!!!! Brilliant!

The end result is a lot of broken plastic inside and a flap that doesn't close.
Anyone got any bright ideas on where to get replacement parts and how the mechanism works?????

Thanks
