Nick - hot water works best because you can dissolve more salts into it than cold water, also hot water softens tar deposits giving the detergent a better chance of removing them.

I have always been told that you do not use hot water to get salt off as it makes the salt action on the car more aggressive. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

I haven't heard that before, but by the time, i get to the hand wash there would be any salt on the car

last time i went to one of those places I was in the queue waiting to go in and was watching the lads at work, when he dropped his chamois leather and shook it, then carried on drying the car. |

JayMann has a very good IMO washer near him - they have a conveyor machine washer but also do a very good manual wash too for extra. Have had my car washed a couple of times by them when I have been down in those parts.
