Always heard good things about Roadangel. I think they now do a Sat/Nav & GPS based detection system in one. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Ok so I'm a flash b****r (excuse the speed camera pun please!) and I bought myself an Indago last Friday. It is good but the speed camera warnings are for the fixed ones and you have tyo pay extra to download as many updates as you like for £100 for a year............ Crying or Very sad

The sucker thingy for the windscreen is crap and cannot take the weight of the unit - even after I cleaned the screen with a water and vinegar mixture to remove any deposits the sucker would only stay put for 10 minutes or so..... but never mind because when it fell off while I was driving and landed in the passenger footwell I noticed that it was still tracking satellites and showing the road/ position so today I have done a little relocating of the kit and have integrated it into.......................... the cupholder! I don't know about you but all I ever user the cupholder for is holding a couple of pens and my mobile phone so here is what I did:

The arm on the sucker cup has a couple of adjustable joints, so I adjusted them so that I could mount the stalk vertically instead of sticking out from the screen horizontally.
Open the front cupholder and removed the plastic insert.
Stuck a square of heavy duty velcro in the slot and onto the base of the arm
Plugged in the power cable to the ciggy lighter and coiled the remaining flex in the rear of the two cupholders.
Closed the cover to hide the cable.
There are some pics in this gallery -

There is one obvious advantage to portable ones - they are just that...portable

However, the std LR one looks fantastic, and if I had to divert my eyes that far from the road to look at my sat nav I would definitely be off roading - UNWITTINGLY! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Tim - looks ok. You know that there is a disc that pops out between the 2 holders ideal if you want to hard wire the thing in! Thanks for the pm! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Cheers guys, the portablity of this on is great as I can use it in my Defender too, but I also have my PDa with GPS that has the whole of the UK's OS maps on it which is much more useful when you are offroading on the Corrie Yarrick Pass or the Ridgeway than a system that keeps telling you to "go to the nearest road" even though she says it very nicely - which is what Navman and Indago both say to you when you venture off the hardtop and on to the forest roads!
And I am budgeting for the upgraded RRS system that is supposed to work offroad for my next car, but really there is nothing better than having an Ordnance Survey map (electronic or paper) in front of you for the detail that they have. The system that I have seen in the RRS S/C doesn't give the detail that a full on OS map has, just a few contours and not much else

I don't look at the screen while driving - I use the voice commands, however I get what Super is saying........ I still have the option of mounting the unit in my line of sight just below the rear view mirror but both Indago and the PDa create quite a large blind spot in the centre of the windscreen. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
