My knob's now back on the right way.

To quote the very embarrassed service manager speaking to me on the mobile this morning :

"The technique is to clench your knob firmly in your fist and then yank sharply upwards. The knob then comes off in your hand.

You then orientate the knob correctly on the shaft and give it a sharp shove back down".
