Best Hotel in the world...

..stayed in a very nice Hotel this weekend, Stanley House on the outskirts of Blackburn.

Got to talking with Mrs S about all the places we've stayed in our c. 10yrs together.

Our vote was undoubtedly Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

Any other suggestions? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Once stayed in a B & B in Cardiff,
The bath tipped over when full, the fridge door fell of, it was a proper Faulty Towers place. Its out there somewhere. Second V10 Treg on the drive at the moment.

Haven't yet done Dubai, but Burj Al Arab is on my list of places to stay.

Best places I have stayed in no partic. order:

- Ritz Carlton, New York (OK, a chain but very good all the same and to this day, the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in)
- The Oberoi, Mauritius
- Silky Oaks Lodge, Queensland
- and back home, Le Manoir aux Quat' Saisons (the best meal I've ever tasted too)

Took Mrs S to Dubai for her 30th last year.

It was the most surreal experience of my life altho' one piece of advice - AVOID JULY.

It was around 120C and horrendous humidity but the Hotel......Everyone should experience it before they croak Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I get to stay in some pretty crumby places round the world, but the places I love to book into if I am paying the bill are
1) The Nurses Cottage, Sway, Hampshire - 5* Service at B&B prices - http://www.nursescottage.co.uk/
2) The Amara Hotel Singapore - 5* Hotel on the waterfront in Singapore that has 3* prices but 6* Service and the best Chinese and Thai Restuarants in Singapore
3) Moon Beach Hotel, Ras Sudr, Sinai - on the Gulf of Suez, in the middle of nowhere and totally relaxing, oh and the wind blows all the year round to keep you cool but maigic for dinghy sailing and windsurfing!

Places to avoid - Burj Al Arab - likely to meet your neighbours and friends there! And lordy all those RRS owners.
Peninsular Hotel, Hong Kong - over-rated and overpriced
Raffles Hotel Singapore - not worth it now as they ruined the experience by modernising the old one. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Argh, Tim!! If only you'd have said this a couple of years ago. We had to stay in Sway for a wedding once and stayed in this other hotel (I don't remember the name now) which really was quite abysmal. Stayed there as they had a decent writeup in the AA Hotels guide and someone local down that way had recommended them too - but it was awful. Full of OAPs who liked the prawn cocktail they'd been serving for the past 635 years. Mad

WOW Shocked Nurses Cottage? That sounds like a dream come true (Don't think Mrs S would approve)

I know the hotel you mena Shmoogle............. fortunately I found the Nurse's Cottage by accident when another place I had a booking for claimed that I hadn't confirmed. Got out the AA Best B&B guide that I carry in the car and started phoning around in the New Forest. I knew I had hit on a winner when the proprietor answered the phone took my booking and then said "If you can be here by 4:30 then afternoon tea is included.........." The food is out of this world and the guy that runs it has all sorts of awards and is a big cheese on the New Forest Tourist board. The great thing is it is small..... restuarant can take 20 max and there are only the 4 bedrooms. I have been going abck now for 5 years, 3-4 times a year, in fact if I am going to London I stay there and get the train up to town as it is cheaper and I can either drive down or fly to Soton and get the train out. That is where I am staying this weekend. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
