When he reviewed the RRS on Top Gear (remember the Chieftains etc) I cannot recall him describing it as "ghastly". Afraid Clarkson thrives on having his favorites that he over praises and his least favourites that he slags off unendingly, finding more and more extreme langage to do so. That wouldn't be quite so intolerable, as long as he remainded consistent, but sadly he blows hot and cold too much to be taken even vaguely seriously.... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

The only reason the D3 didn't win was because "its excess weight blunts performance and results in horrendous fuel bills, keeping this otherwise wondrous machine off the top spot."

. . . they didn't have a proper section for a "tranny van" with posh seats. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass. __________________ Some people accuse me of thinking the world revolves around me, but I'm not stupid . . . I know it revolves around the sun. Which shines out of my @rse!!! |

I seem to recall Clarkson liked the off road performance, but said don't buy one as you will always wish you had the real RR, so I don't think he is changing his story at all. I am surprised though he put the XC90 behind the D3 as he has always gone on about the XC90 as his wife has one!

Pelyma - exactly. If we all bought the best car what a dull world this would be, and the best car would then be the worst car because everyone was driving it! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Take it like men, just pretend you wouldn't rather have a real RR rather than a kit car based on the second best 4x4 |

The top slot is no surprise is it... all the luxury & comfort of the big RR, with the oomph of the SC engine. And as Pelyma says - JC did round off the Challenger piece by saying something along the lines of "you can get the 4.2 in the big RR, so why not do that?"... OK, the fuel economy's a killer but if money was no object I'd have the SC RR too (in the garage next to the M5, of course)

Don't know about the M5 but a SCRR would certainly be on my drive! |

Shmoogle - I prefer the sport to the big boy. I think it looks 100 times better! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Have to admit that an M5 would be in mine. But not at the expense of an Audi Gallardo!

Yes, looks-wise the Sport does win, but then I think you'd get a better overall ownership experience with the full-fat RR.... hey, if money really was NO object then why not have both? 2009 Outstanding Contribution Award - Joint Runner Up 2009 'Tech-Head Of The Year' Award - Runner Up Like it here?
