Hold on a minute.....I'm self employed and I've noticed a real drop in business and I dont see the PM 'bailing me out'.....yes I know there are 1000's of jobs (directly and indirectly) at stake but Tata knew the risks when they bough LR/Jaguar from Ford.

Giving public money to private companies is simply not acceptable unless 'we' the citizen's of this country benefit from the assistance provided.......so 'bail 'em out' by all means but for every £1 loaned the government should get a percentage share in the company so the country benefits when trading conditions improve and profits start 'rolling in' again

Evil or Very Mad

If you read the actual body of text on the petition you will see that it is not a request for a hand out. It is a request for assistance in securing loans to help sustain the business.

The Government promised in the region of 50 billion pounds to support the banking industry during these hard times, but the banks aren't passing this money onto the people that need it. Surely, with over 75,000 jobs at stake it would make sense to keep these large companies going. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Kind of agree with need for assistance but this crowd of idiots [government] would not be employed by any half decent company [with objectives and accountablity] - underperformance on this scale would not be tolerated - the banks need to move cash on and the government have adopted shotgun policies like elma fudd - fire left - right - up down - left - left again - right..... they keep missing targets / objectives and ignoring consequences - emigration has to increase in the next 12-18 months if not sooner.....

They act like its a practice run with no impact... every interview i see at the moment has some elected imbecile doing nothing to address issues but gloss over detail and attempt to treat the masses like idiots - some percentage - dwindling hopefully - believe this rubbish

rant over .... for now....

Signed Thumbs Up Whistle

This is from the petition, and makes sense:

Quote:
......It’s the green choice: JLR accounts for 50% of all R&D in the UK auto industry, working with suppliers and universities to cut carbon emissions. It has an investment programme of around £800 million in environmental technologies. The UK’s industrial future needs high value engineering skills, which could be lost forever if JLR fails.

JLR is the heart of UK manufacturing: It supports 15,000 jobs in its own business as well as 60,000 at suppliers and dealers. JLR spends £2.5 billion a year with suppliers and exports over £4 billion in products.

The deal makes financial sense: Lost income (income tax, VAT, etc) could cost the taxpayer £2 billion. A loan or loan guarantee, would be less than £1 billion, repaid at commercial rates within a year to 18 months.
