United States 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Chawton White
TPMS - Valve dust caps warning

Not sure whether TPMS is standard equipment across the pond (it's now mandatory here in the US), but this special service message is being distributed to LR dealers in North America and "tire" is spelled with a "y", so I'm assuming it's valid worldwide Wink :

Broken/Damaged Tyre Valves - TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitor System)

Last Modified 05-JAN-2009 08:56
Category Chassis
Symptom 306000 Tyres/Wheels

Content
Concern:
Land Rover has received Warranty claims for TPMS valves/sensors which have been broken whilst attempting to remove metal valve dust caps from the tyre valves.

Cause:
Metal valve dust caps corrode onto the aluminum TPMS valve stem and become difficult to remove, without breaking the tyre valve.

Action:
Land Rover engineering do not recommend the fitment of metal dust caps to vehicles fitted with TPMS, warranty claims will not be accepted. Any vehicle found with metal/chrome valve dust caps on TPMS tyre valves must have them removed and replaced with the Factory fitted black plastic valve dust caps, part number RRF500030.
Owners must be informed of the consequences of putting metal valve caps on Aluminum TPMS tyre valves this will void the warranty of the tpms valve assemblies as the plastic cap is the engineering specified fit.

I have seen some chromed metal dust caps with Land Rover logo for sale on eBay before... That's gotta be the cheapest mod ever, but not if it screws up the TPMS sensors. Wink

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 SE Arctic Frost

It is strange that the TSB states that any metal valve caps should be replaced by black plastic caps. The factory fit a silver coloured plastic cap to tpms valves, which is slightly different to the standard black valve cap. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.
