That does not sound right to me, you can't claim the VAT back on cars unless it is a qualifying use such as a Taxi, driving school car etc I hope the VAT man is not on this forum, you night get a visit. Perrys For New & Used Range Rover Sports We also sell Full Fat Range Rovers |

... and i thought that (unless a commercial vehicle) VAT is not applied to resales - an 08 car bought yesterday is likely to be preloved ( |

If it was a car purchased for private use, i.e. no VAT was claimed back on the original new sales invoice, then you are right, it won't have ANY VAT, like most pre-owned cars on the market place. If the car has been company owned/run by a VAT registered organisation who have claimed something back on the car, then they have to charge it on it's sale price, meaning used cars with VAT qualifying status is a good thing for my chauffeur company, hence most sellers advertise this fact especially on cars such as 4x4's, Exec cars etc. I would agree with Perry's on this, and the notion of claiming back 100% VAT on a vehicle's full purchase price, is not really true. Usage and business type all come into the equation. We went VAT registered after i purchased all my car's for chauffeur use, and i just transferred them into company ownership but on the next batch of vehicle's i will be speaking to the guys at our office and getting them to sort out the VAT on them. |
