Wifey really wants to go to Egypt however everyone we know who has been says its hell - they all say its not worth the hassle - my Sister went last year and had a private security company with their group as protection.

This however has not put wifey off about going however wants to obviously miss all the hassle - anyone aware of a first class way of seeing the sites in Egypt to miss all the hassle?

My parents did a cruise down the Nile. that way they are offshore most of the time and can't be got at without a very deliberate effort for a small target audience.

They took in most of the temples and Valeey of the Kings etc. They saw Pyramids but not the ones in Cairo. That was an option day trip however.

Seems a good way to see the sights but also remain secure in your bed/bar/restaurant in the evening.

Me and the wife went to Egypt in 2004, stayed at Sharm el Shiek, which was a up and coming tourist resort, the same resort that got bombed, but had no problems at all and is great for Scuba diving and snorkeling. Though using the Local Taxis was a experience i would want to do again soon

We decided to do a flight down to Luxur (Vally of the Kings), which cost about £300 for the both of us as this was better than the 12 hour drive to Cairo. (Giza & the Pyramids)

We went to the Vally of the Kings, they had security guards there as this was hit by machine gun terrorist a few years before. It was very hot and looked like a quarry, and you were not allowed to take pictures whilst in the tombs, saw a couple have there camera confiscated for taking pictures and heard stories of other been smashed. they saw the flash photography damages the pictures.

From here we went to a temple built into the rock face, this is were we saw a security guard sleeping with his Uzi on show Saw lots of pictures of people sucking a cow (the queen whos temple it was, is depicted as a cow)

We then went on to Luxur Temples When is were all the high pillars are and part built by the Tut am Karmen the boy king, also there is Alexanders Church which was built on top of the luxur temple before it was discovered.

All in all it was a very long day, in 120d.F sun, worth the visit as we was still throwing spears and living in caves when all this was built, but once you have seen one person with a bird head you have seen them all. they do tell a story and the guide explains this in great detail, but i found myself wondering off to explore and get a beer.

We felt very safe whilst there, and would go again most likely Cario area to see the Pyramids next time

Hey Kaine, went to Egypt a few years back, with Kuoni, bit more expensive, (at the time), but the best boats for the Nile cruise, and also very flexible in terms of tours, plans, and visits.

Very good at putting a plan together, you decide what you want to see, eg, cruise 5 days, hurgarda/sharm 7 days, cairo 2 days, they put it all together, very good, and no hassle at all, one price, for everything.
