In the rear wheel arch ...electric thingy

In both rear wheel arches is what looks like a threaded plastic bolt about 3mm long inserted from behind the wheel arch plastic liner. It has no "nut" on it. If it pops out, it dangles near the exhaust and appears to be some sort of grey coloured electric connector.

I have managed (one very dirty shirt later) to put it back into its rightful place. It seems poorly secured or fitted, a good drive on a corrugated dirt road was enough to shake it loose.

But.....what is it? Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Hmmm.. .
The only electrical thing in the wheel arches that I can think of is the TPMS initiator. Could the electrical connector become loose?
Is your vehicle fitted with TPMS in the first place? Malaysia Boleh!

Yes i have been wondering what they where for too. I knocked one out by accident when i was washing inside the wheel well once. It just seems to be sitting there protruding through a hole and not secured very well. I don't have the TPS system. What is it all about? I

Hi Bobby

I don't have TPMS because mine is a basic 2.7TDV6 Aussie spec. If you look in the rear wheel arch, you will see a rounded rectangle indent with two holes, one contains the poorly secured electrical connector thingy. There is one on each side....

I would love to know what it is!! Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Looked around the arch (poor lighting, agreed) but could not find anything like described above. Shocked
Like MAW suggested, some pictures would be helpful.

Just thinking aloud, if this is near the rear of the rear wheel arches, this could be where the TPMS Initiators are fixed. It could be that your vehicle is TPMS prepped but not TPMS equipped. So basically you are looking at the connectors for the Initiators. Just a guess! Malaysia Boleh!

You may right there Bobby since they seem to be "terminated". I will try to post a pic but I don't want to have to disassemble the thing again having just put it all back together.
