England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Santorini Black
What is it?

Hi all. Great Forum, really useful.

Just picked up my new (1 year old) Tdv8 in December and apart from the suspension knocking noise (not to be discussed in this post) it is great. I have found that under the central arm rest, above the fridge there is wiring and a cradle for something (phone? Ipod?) - not sure what? Can anyone suggest what is usually pre wired in that spot?

Thanks all

Wiring for the phone cradle but most people use the bluetooth system now. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

Thats something I, as a new member, have been looking into lately. It is essentially an auxiliary port for the auxiliary channel on your entertainment system.

I'm guessing that this is mostly used for ipods etc but, anything that uses the same jack I guess could be compatible. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Sorry Wozz on this occasion you are incorrect,

VA is correct in his post Exclamation TDV8's about 1 year old will be the last to have the phone cradle fitment installed (like mine) in the inside of the lid. Due to very few phone cradles ever being made by LR this is really defunk now as the car also has bluetooth for the phone connection. This connection can't be used for anything else currently. TDV6 - gone

Indeed! Since MY08.5, there's no longer even the wiring for the cradle and you'll need to be 100% dependent on Bluetooth if you want to hook your phone up to your car.

Not for the first time.

Ironically this was information passed to me by my local LR dealership. Another flawed piece of information from a thoroughly unimpressive stealer. WINNER - 2009 Best Newcomer Award

Thanks all. I am using Bluetooth and that is fine, just wondered whether I could connect an I-Pod in the cradle. Sounds like its a no.

Great and quick feedback as ever. Very Happy Thumbs Up

'fraid not. Either use the AUX port or pay to have the woefully inadequate LR iPod interface installed and then be disappointed that it doesn't do what you thought it would Wink

By a Belkin ipod connection for the power source at back of the armrest and a good quality male to male connection cable from the Belkin to the Aux input socket next to the power source. Then pop your ipod on the tray inside the armrest and jobs a good one.

Very cheap compared to the alternatives and no install needed Thumbs Up

If you buy the Belkin direct from them (European version) or Apple you can get it in black as opposed to white and you won't even notice it plugged in. TDV6 - gone

Forgot about that Belkin - it's "amped" as well if I remember so you don't get the "exploding windows" syndrome if your phone rings Wink

Just had a little look at the Belkin site....seems they don't do that particular type anymore. Yes it is Amped. So if mine goes wrong they'll just have to fix it under their lifetime warranty.

But had a look on the Apple web site and there is another make available now that connects via the Aux port on same lines as the origional Belkin.

Kensington Liquid AUX £53.79 with a remote.

Aux port connection has got to be better sound quality than via Fm. TDV6 - gone
