I think as well that the LR kit is great. I know it just handles the normal iPod functions, but it works, and it looks good. I have the cradle to the immediate right of the steering wheel, and can monitor the iPod screen. I know that when you put in the iPhone 3G, it looks like it charges, and I thought it did, but then on my latest outing, a 3 hours drive to Zurich and back, I was using the iPhone for verifying the speed etc., and it was using the GPS module all the way, and it ran flat. The little green lightning is lit up, as if it is charging, but to no good. Also, it was not the 3Gs that were getting fried, but the original iPhone. The new 3Gs have a build-in "fuse" to prevent over charging. The original does not! Hence, a lot people learned that the hard way. They travelled to the US, or bought one over EBay, and then they tried charging them in their iPod car chargers, and it basically fried them, turning your newly bought USD400 iPhone into an expensive brick. I need to find a smart way of charing my 3G when in the car, as well as cradle. As it does not work in the LR cradle (at least for me), I will just continue using my iPod Classic (160GB) in it. Hence I need another solution for my iPhone. In addition to various GPS solutions it also has a smart little SCDB connected application, and of course it is awesome to be using Google Earth while driving in the mountains:) KB RRS TDV8, black with ivory. |
