New RRS Owner to-be

Hi,

I am looking for some words of wisdom for an owner to-be (in a week) and a first timer at that too.

I will be taking delivery of an RRS XS which, I am sure you all know, is an RRS S with bits bolted on. I would have loved to go for an HSE but sadly my pockets and existing financial commitments simply wouldn't allow.

The vehicle is fitted with PTI but, as yet another iphone 3g owner I wondered if there was any clever way of playing my MP3's through the ICE system? I have seen plenty of gizmo's and gadgets from bluetooth conversion widgets to toys that hook up to the Radio by creating an Fm signal.

Without having experienced any of these gadgets I am nonplussed as to which, if any, will best suit my requirements. I am guessing that, ultimately I may be stumped. However I wanted to post and draw on the community experience herein to gauge whether playing of MP3's on the system in the XS is possible.

Useful comments most welcome?

Welcome Wozz

Looks like you can use the iPhone with the LR cradle

OK, I got my RRS this week, with the LR004805 cradle and all. It works beautifully with the iPod Classic 160GB I have, but of course I would also like to use it with my iPhone 3G.

I can connect the iPhone in the cradle, and it then switches to iPod mode, and plays the music, and I can then control it via the remote controls. Also, it looks like it charges, which is great

Thanks Jay,

I did read a large number of posts on here to try and find the info. I just wasn't sure whether the XS had the right audio cable connections.

I'll take a trip down to the dealer on delivery day. I can't wait! I have wanted a Range Rover of some ilk since I was a tiny toerag so this is a big deal for me Smile

Yes - the XS has the PTI, parking sensors and prem sat nav.

The MP3 connectivity is a nice to have rather than a must have but I wanted to look into it anyway. I guess I will know for sure soon enough. It seems detailed info on the XS is not widely available online.

Will Wonka has it in his car works well he says but has it in the glove box in a way it's a good idea keeps the dash clean but you can't see what's playing RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Thanks for taking the time to reply Jay.

Do all Range Rover Sports come with some sort of audio connectivity as standard do you know? If not I am going to have to retrofit the kit in the link above which I am not overly keen on doing.

I have been going round in circles looking online.

No worry

I think they are all the same would cost LR way to much to have different sat nav for each spec of car from that i would say it has it so should be ready to go

I think you can fit this yourself but if i remember right it needs to be programmed by LR for it to work?? RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

I'll take a trip to the local dealers when the car lands. I think if the only option is to retrofit I will start burning cd's or start practising my singing.

I just managed to speak to one of the guys at the local dealership who, for most of last year were pretty unhelpful, until one of the sales team saw me getting out of my 7 series in the car park. Ok so I wear combats and silly t-shirts but still they could have been a little more helpful.

But I digress - apparently there is an aux connection behind the centre console which I can cable into and play tunes from my iphone directly. I don't get any steering wheel control over the mp3's but it seems this can be a short term solution until upgrading, should I choose to.

I am now happy and will go celebrate with a nice big fry up!

Sound's just like me Laughing

Yeah you can but the sound isn't all that load it works but you have to have the volume up to max (35) where you only need it at around 21 ish when playing the Radio or CD's RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

I would spend the money and get the LR kit for the iPod. Which one depends on what you want; the old kit is with the cradle, which I personally like a lot, as well as a connection module in the glove compartment, and the new kit, without the cradle, but with all of the connection cables in the centre console (or wherever you want it).

You can still find the old kit, even if LR does not sell it anymore (the reason supposedly is that there are too many iPod models to support these days). The old kit works well with the iPod classic, and the old Nanos, but NOT the photo, the new Nano, or the earlier std. iPods. Also, I have now confirmed the iPhone does "fit" into the cradle, and the iPod part works well with the integration, but it does NOT charge (but it also does not ruin the iPhone (as it did the first generation)).

Thanks guys - I really appreciate the help.

I'll look at the module for retrofitting and probably go for that based on what you've both said.

I'll put some pictures up as soon as I have them - sometime after Jan 6th Smile

EDIT: We cross posted Jay - that looks pretty neat. Is it easy to fit? The charging would be handy too - I assume it will work with an iphone.
