Dealer cost for spare key / Warrenty - UK RRS

Found a RRS to buy that I can afford, but owner has lost one of the keys.

How much is a new key from a dealer?

Also how long is the warranty, owner thought you only get two years, and I had assumed it was three. - --

It will have some sort of stamp in the log book or reg doc. There's something but not sure exactly where. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

I'd want to be sure the key was gone though - wouldn't want RRS 'going' one night ... Shocked

Confused

Offer £250 less or even more for missing key - that may be incentive enough for it to be found - how would insurance deal with a missing car with a missing key Question Question Question

Yeah it sure is a worry where the other key might be, I did push for it to be found, dropping my offer £300. But owner maintains his wife lost it.

Is it possible to get the alarm/immobiliser reprogrammed to new keys? - --

The cost of the key was £95.00 last week Shocked as I thought I had left mine in the washing machine, and they need your V5 passport etc. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

At the end of the day if this chap was criminally minded he would give you the 2 standard keys and already had a spare made to nick your car with. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Personally this would make me walk away and not even risk considering the car.

Just my opinion.

there are a lot of RRS's out there and i'd pay a bit extra for one with peace of mind Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I agree, but I'm still tempted. Hence gathering some information and opinions Wink

Have HPI'ed it and its fine, and owner comes across as knowing about the car, its options etc. Plus have seen other documents in his/name and address that match the V5.

I have some sympathy for the chap, as my wife has lost keys to my cars twice now, and the £100 for the RRS is a bargin compared to £300 I had to pay for a Lexus key. - --

The lost key can be deleted from the car's system.
- So while the car can be mechanically unlocked, it cannot be started.

I'd be okay about it. BUt I'd get the new key asap and have the lost ones deleted. 2022 P440e AB

That's very handy to know. Thank you so much.

Will be locking it in the garage until the V5 is back and I get the keys sorted. - --

I wouldn't let one lost key stop me from buying the car if that's the only problem with it....As has been said, offer less and use the saving to get new keys coded Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Good luck with it! Current: I can't say...Oh the Shame!
