New Road Tax

Autocar Magazine list 55 vehicle manufactures producing 3042 different model variations.

Of the 3042 vehicle variations not one vehicle falls into the zero road tax bracket of 100 CO2 or below (not even the Smart diesel as reported on radio 4 yesterday) and only 88 of the 3042 vehicle variations will see the £35.00 road tax reduction. 470 vehicle variations will get the £5.00 reduction and 571 variations will remain paying the current road fund licence

The cleverly hidden part is the largest group by far, the normal 1.6-2.2L family car / repmobile. They will face an increase of £25.00 cunningly hidden by putting the spot light on us 4x4 drivers!

Of the 586 vehicle variations that fall into the NEW band G (225 CO2 and above) only 130 are true 4x4 (offroad) vehicles. Therefore the remaining 456 variations are sports or other luxury execcutive vehicles.

Although new Band G have been hit the hardest (£45.00 increase on new cars) us 4x4 drivers have been used as an effective smoke screen to hide the REAL whipping "Mr Anti 4x4 Joe Public" has taken (average £25 increase) but won't realise until they renew their tax! 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Bow down Makes interesting reading, but is not altogether surprising.

I've said before on this site, the govt. will not do a budget without making more money i.e. stealth tax.

Their diversion tactics (Blame 4x4's) are better sleight of hand the David Blaine could ever hope for.

Best plan of action? Leave the country, lower your cost of living and get some sunshine thrown in for good measure. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

EXACTLY!!! This is what makes me angry about the whole thing... we're being made scapegoats of when the figures show us 4x4 drivers are only 20% of the people who'll get affected by the change! Since when was 20% a majority?

F***ing politicians!!!

A friend of Mrs S bought herself a Mazda RX-8.

Nice car, but have you seen the emissions and mpg (She gets 21-23mpg) from what is the equivalent of a 1.3L?

Will they get a bashing? Evil or Very Mad Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

OK R4 lunchtime consumer programme had the experts digesting the budget. According to the DVLA and HMCustoms there are NO zero rated cars sold in the UK, you have to import one from the continent privately, and they are very specialised cars apparrently (don't what they meant by that but assume they are the manufacturers special hybrids and battery powered cars) 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

It's time the police came and moved all labour politicians along - it's starting to smell of the 1970s.

Which ironically is the other way of paying nothing for your VED - an exempt vehicle. Just collected my free 'Historic vehicle' disk for an ageing LR from the Post Office this afternoon; was half expecting Mr B to have plugged that particular loophole at the same time. (Certainly helps when the economy is similar to a S/C RRS).
