Don't see many Tonga RRS's out there, but saw one yesterday in Sorrento.

Not many Land Rover vehicles hereabouts and the Italian police don't seem to use Defenders anymore. Seen a handful of Freelanders and just the one RRS. No D3's but a few olders D1's and 2's. The roads are so tight around here that I guess a larger Landrover would be a bit restricted. But sitting high, with lots of metal around you would be quite a comfort as the driving techniques here are "interesting". They don't quite embrace the concept of "Giveway" but they do "Takeway" really effectively. I've worked out that the rule of the road is "Never stop - not for anything" just keep flowing. All good once you have sussed that rule, and realise that everyone is anticipating everyone else's continued movement (it really takes them by surprise if the Brit in the Hire Car stops at a junction, STOP sign or pedestrian crossing - and the cacophany of car horns that then starts is really quite rude fun). But 24 hours later I am now driving in the Italian style - just hope I can remember to be British again when I get home.

We were also in Rome for 5 days and saw loads of Police in Defenders. Also loads in Alpha 159's

Yeah, italian police still uses some Defenders, depends on the region. The Alfa 159 it's the latest police car they got, and the coolest, apart from the famous Gallardo they have. In Switzerland police got Series 3 beemers, Subaru Forrester, some Opel (Vauxhall for you) Vectra and Omega.
