Jim

Did you end up joining the RRC of NSW?

I finally got to do the intro sand driving course at stockton
it was pretty good on 4 participants and the instructor.
THere was some challenging stuff i didnt do, more cause of the chance of damage...
i did sustain some minor damage to the those plastic air dams infront of the wheels.
Anyone know whether their critical to the cars operation, as I have removed them for now.

They also recommend removing the rear mud flaps...

I found the sand mode to be very throttle responsive when driving...
but when i got stuck , the sand mode was too much throttle when trying to rock back and forth to get
unstuck when bogged in sand....i found changing to grass mode was a better mode with less
aggresive throttle allowing gentle action to compact the sand and get out...

Even the driving on the flats was fun as you fish tail all over the place follwoing the ruts in front of you...

sorry no pics as the camera battery was flat...any way our pommy brethren would
only have been upset at 'not a cloud in sight' blue skys
nex time.... Toyota Corolla...Sad((((

Afraid not, did not have much time and have spent the last 3 out of 4 weeks working in Singapore, back there next week.

wished i knew that last week, i ended up having to get snatched out, on the flat as well, rear end disappeared and then the front joined in, wheels well and truely dug in took 3 blokes and a rather oversized jeep to do the work

I live in Newcastle and often take the RRS on the beach at Stockton - however I have problems with the standard tyres (even down at 12 psi) when I left the beach and hit the dunes.

My previous 4WD - an old Bundera had no issues at all. Did you have standard tyres when you hit Stockton ?

Tez, standard stock wranglers and i drop them to 15 PSI (that's the staun setting anyway). I have got bogged down once and that was on the main beach when it buried itself to the axles, which do not exist i know Whistle , lets say halfway up the wheels.

I have taken this through the dunes via the williamstown entrance at Stockton a few times and never had a problem, just dial in Sand Mode and off it goes.. Thumbs Up I think the sport is more accomplished off road in standard form than quite a few of the Jap counterparts that we see out here in droves.. Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Tyres make a big difference - also remember to switch off DSC. That really helps.
