But high pressure sprays of diesel landing on a hot turbo casing will produce a very nasty fire - we sometimes get them on board the ship on generators when fuel lines get fatigued and crack and spray a fine jet of high pressure diesel onto the hot turbo casing. The only diesel that won't catch fire easily is a big puddle of it, it's too rich a mixture to ignite.
The guy who looks after my 90 had his D3 ignite into a fireball when a crack developed in a high pressure fuel line and sprayed atomised diesel onto the turbo. The car took approx 10 minutes to become a molten wreck......... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi, guys,
Tim is more then right look up HMAS WESTRALIA and what happened to it on the 5th May 1998 "The fire was caused by the rupture of a fleXl"ble (SIC) fuel return line on cylinder number nine starboard engine. This sprayed diesel fuel onto a hot indicator cock, which ignited a spray fire." (if you are interested here is the link to the DSTO website http://hdl.handle.net/1947/4087). It was a sad day in the RAN when four Sailors were lost in this incident. The culprit was the application of incorrect standards and different components used eg solid fuel lines to flexible hoses. The fuel lines bursting ejected the fuel under pressure atomising it in the correct proportions causing a massive fire ball and engine room fire RIP.
