Blackberry phones

Am slowly resigning myself to going the seperate route of new phone AND new iPod as the hassle of not being able to get a legit iPhone (i.e not having to unlock it, issues with updates etc.) is becoming a bit boring now.

A mate of mine was telling me that a new Blackberry is coming out soon which is similar to both touchscreen AND regular buttons in that it has a gel-like screen which depresses slightly when pressed.

Does anyone know anything about this, and also how do you rate Blackberry phones in general? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I have a curve, they are ok but a bit cumbersome to navigate, but it is the first non nokia phone I have had. The company I work with don't support BB anymore as they don't use mail for exchange. I was told you can buy unlocked iphones in Belgium is that not a route? Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

Thanks all.

Tim, the Thunder looks like the one he was talking about but seems to just have a standard TFT screen, not what he was raving about.

JPR, was just looking at the Bold which looks great but why isn't it up to much?

Also, just read on blackberry website that with the Bold you can upload music direct from iTunes which would save me having to buy an iPod too Exclamation

The final confusion, there is apparantly a BB rival out there (HDC?) which makes a phone which is windows based where as BB's aren't.

Is this a big +point or not? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Not so much drama getting one Steve, it's more the hassle of not getting a 'Legit' one and everytime there is an update you run the risk of locking the phone until a patch is available to unlock it again.

Just looked on CYTAVoda website and they only offer 2 BB's Rolling Eyes

Australia 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Chawton White

I have the Bold, it is just launched in Australia. It is no real gain over the curve despite being 3G enabled, although I do prefer the 'skin' on the OS to the last version. It's actually a bit bigger and a little less easier to type fast than on compared to the curve as the keys are not as pronounced.

Yes the next Blackberry device is rumoured to be touch screen, but I have yet to see any firm details or pics of it.

2nd Rower, see Tim's 1st link, that's the touchscreen BB.

I presume you rate BB's then? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Thanks ST I saw that Thumbs Up, but how sure are we that that is an actual shot or rather a mock up or speculative photochop of the next CrackBerry by the fansite?!

I have no choice on using them as they are the corporate mobile email platform. As I am ultimatley responsible for that locally the telco here usually gives me the new models as they arrice,, I went from the 8300 to the 8800 (curve) and now to the 9000 (Bold) this year.

They are okay, having looked at friends IPhones I think the BBerries are better email phones if that is what is driving you. I certainly also struggle to type fast on an iphone, but my fingers don't help!!! I understand from better informed sources (i.e. techies) than me that the BBerry email platform is also more secure than the Iphone platform which is why it usually wins in the corporate environment. The Bold also has better media capability that the curve or it's predecessor in that you can sync videos, pictues and MP#'s very easily but i don't use that.

BB is not to bad.
Only real problem with my Blackberry 8310 is to keep it away from my wallet. If I keep it close to my credit cards, none of them won't work for the next week.

Maybe I have to put my phone overnight on my wifes wallet. Whistle Whistle Whistle
