The iPod classics contain a moving parts mini hard drive, iPod Touch's and iPhones have solid state flash memory which is more compact but more expensive. That's why they have less memory but more technology in them. I have a 16gb iPhone and can easily get about 20hours of video, 100's of photos, a couple of audio books and 750 songs on it, more than enough for day to day use I find. The 32gb iPhone is out in the States now I think so should hit the UK soon.

Mine is more than a year old, SWMBO's is just a few months old, still a 80gb classic, but it is less than half the thickness of mine. got about 14gb of music, 9gb of video and 2gb of talking books on mine.

The new classics might be solid state memory but I still think they are hard disk based though I've not seen the new ones. It's just that the cost seems too low for them to be anything other than an ultra slim hard drive based memory.

The cheapest OCZ Solid State 128gb hard drive for a PC/Laptop is still around the £300 mark, granted the memory is probably faster than that in an iPod/iPhone so more expensive.
