England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

I 'lost' my keys this week. Went out to the car, unlocked it, loaded up the boot then went into the back, messing with the rear seat headrests. Looked round, no keys. Must have left them in the boot,no keys. Looked everywhere, in the drive, in the house no sign at all. Three quarters of an hour later and the boot unloaded still no sign. As I am certainly not in the bloom of youth I thought my geriatric side had definately kicked in. I went back into the rear of the car for a last look and saw something shining. They had fallen into the little hole in the rear seat corner. As I hardly ever put the rear seats down when I had the TD5, they could have been there months. Do those things you can attach to keys and whistle at work? By the way re the waterproof keys have you seen that floating key fob that was on Dragons den ( someone from Crewe invented) If you sail , or fish that could be useful should you drop them in wter.

Bobby,
I realise now what I must have done hence the re-post where I have clarified what I must have done.
Howver what you have said isn't strictly true,my car was set to autolock so if had I left it un-lockeded ,shut the back door and then gone for a pee it might have locked itself hence why I have disabled this feature. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Chris,

I see. Probably extra features with the newer models.

In the earlier models, autolock is a feature which is speed related. If this feature is enabled, all doors will automatically lock when the vehicle speed exceeds 5 mph.

I have left my car unlocked many times, especially after removing things from the boot and it has never self locked.

Cheers. Malaysia Boleh!

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I made rather a fool of myself only a few weeks after buying my TDV8...
I'd used the remote to unlock the driver's door, opened it, put key in ignition but stayed outside of car to take jacket off, must have knocked door cause it then closed. Door hadn't fully closed though and was only slightly ajar. However, when i pulled the handle it wouldn't open.

Tried all other doors, obviously still locked. Keys still in ignition, radio and headlights on in a multistory car park!

Very annoyed. Had to wake up a neighbour who had a key to my house, to get the spare keys and very kindly bring them 30 miles to where I was at 11pm!!

Several of my friends on the way back from the pub I was in came to laugh at my misfortune as I sat shivering away waiting for the rescue keys.

Literally 2 minutes before the keys turned up, one of my friends thought he'd just bump the door closed properly.... low and behold, the door firmly shut... and remained unlocked!!!!

ARSE!!!

Needless to say, I felt a complete fool, and owed my neighbour considerably!

Thought a story worth posting in case someone else finds they get in the same situation.
I know, I'm an idiot!

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Firenze Red

Hi, on this subject can someone please clarify something for me? Confused Question

If I leave my engine running when I get out the car (while Autolock is set to ON and all doors - execpt obviously drivers door are locked) to, say, open a gate, would the car lock me out? Confused

I have an 07 RRS and on the first weekend of owning it I left the keys in the ignition while i got out for a few minutes (can't remember if engine was running or not) and the drivers door was just pushed to and not closed properly. I then finished what I was doing and went to get back in and . . . . it had locked - S Censored T!
As per previous members post, I tried all doors and nothing - I was in middle of nowhere, phone in the car and no idea how to ring LRA. Just before I broke down and blubbered in the mud, I tried the drivers (half open) door again - pushing handle hard before pulling it and it opened!!! Very Happy Very Happy Ever since then I crap myself if I leave the keys in the ignition when getting out of the motor!

This sure is getting weird!!

My 2006 model is very obedient. It will not lock if the key is in the ignition (with or without engine running) and all the doors are shut. You can open the doors and boot as many times you like and then shut them all and the doors will not self lock.

There is the automatic relock feature though. If the vehicle is unlocked using the remote control and one minute elapses before a door or the tailgate is opened, the vehicle will relock. Malaysia Boleh!

Whenever I leave the keys in and doors closed I always hit the drivers window [down] button just in case of the autolock, worst thing is opening tailgate only from the remote and 'resting' the keys in the boot to then close the tailgate Shocked

Dot do Shocked ne it yet but always conscious Confused

The key over the phone is NOT a myth......I thought it was bull Censored too when I saw it on Mythbusters (TV show) and it worked. I tried it on my last car (BMW) not tried it on RRS, the button had to be pressed repeatedly for about 20 secs and I moved the phone around the drivers door and it opened!

I also locked my key in my boot a couple of months ago but had no access to the spare key. LRA were on site in 30 mins and got the boot open for me. Thumbs Up

i think there are two different functions here (at least on my 2008).

Firstly the 'auto door lock' function set via the dashboard computer. This locks the doors automatically when you drive over a certain speed.

Secondly there is also an autolock I have triggered when not ine the car. Specifically when I have unlocked the car, but been talking to friieds without opening the door, the car locls iself again after a few minutes, I have never tested to see if it does this if I open a door and then close it.

I have left my keys in the igmition several times and never had it auto lock on me then.

That's my experience FWIW.

Okay have just checked the owners manual and it states that the speed related locking, activated via the trip computer, activates at 8km hour or 5miles per hour. The auto lock activates after 1 min if no door, or the tailgate or the bonnet are opened.

For those who have seen die hard 4, it also states that this also works on the RRS. -- If the restraint devices are deployed all door locks arw automatically unlocked!!!
