Theo,

I couldn't supply you a TDV6 on an 08 plate at £34k let alone a TDV8 Shocked !! Drop me a PM reminder in the morning or email and I'll have a look for you. Email is best so that I can mail you back a PDF.

I've just paid £34k trade for a 57 plate TDV6 with 20" wheels.

Last month we sold 2x 08my, 08 plate, less than 1,000 mile TDV8's for £45,000.

I don't think I would be anywhere remotely close (several £000's) away, and unfortunately the only TDV8 I have at the moment is an HST on an 08 plate which is £52900.

I'd love to help, and the guys on the forum know I like a challenge, but I'm going to have to concede defeat on this one.

Regards,

James Thumbs Up

..careful, their share price fell 60% yesterday, rumours of breaching banking covenants and auditors expressing significant doubts about its ability to continue as a going concern. The Icelandics bought a big slice of it last year, which seems nicely timed (not). The Icelandics seemed to be investing huge amounts in recent years on UK companies that now are mostly worth a fraction of their former value. I suspect there will definitely be falling sales of RRS in Iceland this year.

Just imagine what losses the leasing companies are suffering. The deals available on early TDv6 and TDv8 models assumed far far better residuals than are going to be available, so said leasing companies take very big hits everytime they take one of these vehicles back. I suspect they will soon either jack up their rates or no longer quote for business on big 4x4's, unless the deal is underwritten by the manufacturer.

One "collectors item" model that is now becoming far far cheaper is the LR Defender V8 petrol, auto, 50th anniversary edition. Only 350 of these were built. These are now best part of 10 years old, but last year still routinely changed hands for low - mid teen thousands. Now there are deals a good bit lower than that. Most have been cherished from new and represent a high point in the Defender's history. I am off to view one this afternoon and hope to close a deal at £7k. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

Good luck with the viewing, they are a fantastic piece of kit, and something I've always hankered after myself.

James,
Great post and I completely agree (apart from the JJB bit).
To me the way to go and the way I financed is contract hire including service, fixed terms no hidden extras and let the finance company worry about residuals.
After 8 years with MB I came back to LR and am absolutely highly delighted with my car(if not with my dealer)and can't see me buying anything other than a RRS when it comes time to change.
I think the few of us who are old enough to have seen this all before in the 80's will come through OK,I bought my first house when interest rates were something like 15% and have always worried that they might one day go northwards and although I don't think they will go that high for some people who over borrowed against fictitious salaries things are going to get rough.
Of course one now has to cut ones cloth,I've just bought a huge pile of firewood for about £140 which will last me 2 winters and the oil fired heating is now set to background heat,I think now before I hop in the car and up to now have managed to keep my diesel bill stable by reducing my trips.
One thing that a recession clearly does is sort the wheat from the chaff and companies like yourselves with a class leading product who prize their customers (and potential customers) and work hard to keep them happy will win through.
I know where my business will go next time.
Best regards,

Can everyone please ignore my unqualified comment about JJB; clearly I have reacted to something that I heard on R4 which wasn't strictly as it seemed! Embarassed

Birdy

Hi, well Im not an expert or a trader but I do have recent experience of actually looking to buy an 08 plate TDV8

Your extras are nice but as all dealers have ever said to me at part-ex they will help shift the car but are not worth a penny in trade in over book

Please note that 'book prices' are a very unreliable concept at the moment

I have been offered TDV8's on 08 plates with approx 6000 miles for well under 40k
Most are advertised at 40k or under but with only a little negotiation the price tumbles
This is from franchised dealers not private sellers, but as long as the car is UK spec with warranty Im not really bothered

So assuming dealers are asking 36k for a sale ( the one I mentioned earlier at 34 was after serious negotiation and was very leggy) it doesnt take much to subtract VAT and 10& margin or so to find what you will be offered trade

Good luck

By the way Im actually not fishing to knock you down to deal
All of the news we are having this and last week suggests the market for big cars is not getting better anytime soon

I happen to still want one and am now very happy to wait till Nov/Dec

Cheers

Theo
