Should I buy a BMW X6....?

I’ve been driving a BMW X6 (3.5) for the past few days as my local dealer is definitely scraping the barrel to find prospective buyers.

To be honest I am sorely tempted. The things I love, full iPod/USB integration with all info on display, the electronic handbrake goes on automatically each time you stop, the phone system works with address book etc (why can’t mine be upgraded to get it working?), the head-up display is amazing giving speed and also directions (if requested), the DAB radio…I love it, Planet Rock for 3 days running, loads of storage especially in the boot as there is no spare tyre.

Driving is no big deal, its giving about 28 MPG, not bad for around London. The TMC works on any reasonable sized map, not the idiotic 2.5 miles that the RRS allows, pathetic design. Rear reversing camera is excellent and it also have PDC.

The down side, only 4 seats and the rears are ok if you are not taller than 6 ft, silly gearstick, but it does have flappy paddles. Mapping only work on partial postcode. Boot lid is a real struggle to open fully and I eventually gave up trying.

It’s a different car to my V8 diesel, not better, but all the detail stuff works, you can never accuse LR of that.

With most boxes ticked, it will come in around £55k, so about 10% more than my existing car, but I am not sure if the residual will hold up?

Anybody got any thoughts??? Cool .

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.

TDV8 HSE MY10 with pretty much everything including a vase of daffs on the back shelf, tropical fish collection in the centre console, hamsters in the spare tyre and finally sheep on the passenger seats.....for weight distribution, what else??

the 4 seats is why i couldnt buy this car but i was probably the only person who liked it waaay back in feb/march when bmw asked me if i wanted to get on the list Laughing Laughing . As with all the new bmw's the toys is what really selling them to me. Almost bought an 3.0sd X5 instead of the TDV8 because i would have spec'd ALL the toys.

...now having seen it on the road. In its standard form it doesnt appeal to me as much as the range. Looks hella mean from the front tho.

Just went to the classic car show at Knebworth Park where there is a bit of an unofficial off-road track and I remember why I bought the RRS in the first place, its a really good mud plugger and lots of personality.

It was in its element and I had an ear-to-ear smile.

Now if I can just get a rear camera, DAB, my phone address book working, an amazing head-up display, full ipod integration, keyless entry........er, now the impossible, a LR dealer who offers decent service, then I would be a very happy bunny.

Still, we all have to dream.

I think its thumbs down for the X6 for the time being, maybe re-consider later this year!

'Razz' .
