Computer protection

One for any IT geeks out there (Shmoogle Whistle )

My mum has her PC back from being repired and her friend who fixed it has installed 'Avast' protection on it.

Does anyone know of this and is it any good?

She is with Talk Talk and they are offering online protection for £2.49 per month against 'spyware, hackers and phishing scams'. Whilst I know what these are, how can they guarantee protection against them?

I used to use Avast on everything its ok for general use but not very good. I found it started going a bit power mad. ie picking up threats that werent really threatsect. I use AVG now,. Its free and slightly better than avast imo.

If your going to pay for anything use Kaspersky.
