I was at the stealers last week to have some work done on my Defender and noticed they had a HST in Stornoway with Black leather up for £55k.

I asked the sales chap about it and he said it had been registered on the 1st April but had not letf the dealership or turned a wheel as the chap that was going to buy it paid a large deposit but his business had gone bust so he could not afford it. As a result they were selling it as a pre-owned vehicle etc.

As I know the dealer principle I asked him to give me the cost to replace mine with it - he said he would work out a really good deal for me Yeah right

Mine is a RRS TDV8 08 model on a 57 plate registered in December with 7800 miles on. Lots of extras such as the side steps, side protection, mud flaps, front spot light kit chrome wing mirrors, premium floor mats, LR removable towbar etc etc.

He wanted my car plus £21k effectivly making my car worth £34k after 7 months of ownership

He thought it was a really good deal and could not understand why I did not bite his hand off

Has the world gone mad  "UNDERSTEER" ----is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"OVERSTEER" ------is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"HORSEPOWER" ----is how fast you hit the fence.
"TORQUE" -----------is how far you take the fence with you.

All your extras aren't really worth anything at resale time and the market is in the doldrums, but 34k was a bit of a crap offer. You wouldn't really chop yours in after 7 months though, would you?

the best advice at the moment is to keep it (however I'm the last person to take advice from on cars as I've changed mine twice in 6 months this year already )

Very harsh, same thing happened to me this week.

In a VW stealer, love the new Touareg R50, (I know, i know, Kaine help me out.... )
Anyway I have a I have a fully loaded S/C, 08 (end of march 4 months), 2k on the clock, he offers me £37k and doesn't even miss a beat, as i myself , and goes on about a fair price and "something i should really consider", madness.

VW dealer - ask them to get another PX figure, but this time on the car your PX'ing - when I switched to my Treg two dealers kept on getting PX figures based on a 2.7tdi Allroad and not a 3.0V6 Allroad

Thats a very low bid... we got that for a 07 TDV6 HSE from Bmw last month, plus got the bmw discounted!
Wouldn't even entertain the guy with an answer on that to be fair!

Spoke to him again today, and he is sure that is the P/X value, even said some people didn't even want to touch them.... .

Correct told him not to worry about the P/X, as it was a silly price and he got all upset, telling me how fair and right his offer was.... .

That's why I decided not to change mine in the end and am sticking with it for the longer term.

There are some amazing price drops happening in the market right now though. It's a buyer's market, but not for PX. L319 D4 HSE

No not even interested as in 6 months I would be in the same position - to be fair I was only making a tentative enquiry whilst there but they took it further

Whilst I know times are hard, they really do take the p s on trade in's as when I bought mine new there were no second hand TDV8's about and those that were for sale were going for just under the new price - now it would seem they can't give them away if you are trading in but if you actually want to buy one then all of a sudden the price goes up
