save fuel, drive slower

Done some miles this week and have to say then generally fuel clearly isn't too expensive - when the prices started going up a few months ago I thought I'd noticed a reduction in motorway traffic speeds, however this week I've concluded I was wrong - so many people are still hammering down the m'way at 80mph+

Clearly fuel is still cheap to a lot of people - I'd say raise fuel duty Whistle

just my thoughts

also I think we should have road pricing in the UK - pay as you go driving - make all motorways into Toll roads too - traffic is too heavy and I for one will pay for an empty road

30 billion pounds the chancellor received in Fuel tax at the pumps last year, another 15 billion in taxes befoe it reaches the pumps, local councils zap you and then prise your your loose change out of your pocket for parking.

Remebermost european countries have done away with road tax and put it on fuel, which is still cheaper than the UK

Since the early eighties investment in road infra structure and transport systems has lagged far behind europe and many other developed countries. Millions have been spent on projections which has forecast this.

What a clever goverment we have, make us suffer, rob us, but people fall over themselevs to give them more!

NO, NO, NO enough is enough.

Its not that long ago such wicked thoughts would have people burnt at the stake!

Mind you it is late friday night, could be the drink.

I jest, however have some valid points - how many people still drive at 80-90mph around the UK motorway network and then complain about the price of fuel? I am guilty of this and hence a bit hypocritical when I moan about the price - I could drive slower (60 etc) and save money but I'm not yet

p.s. whats more scary is I've not touched a drop

Over here our top limit is 35mph with many 25mph zones, me doing 80-90 on the UK motorways sees my mpg go up, plus the fact they can't put points on my Guernsey licence Laughing

Depends what your driving Kaine ....

80 - 90mph in a RRS S/C - does less mpg than a 3.0tdi A6 at the same speed.

People already Pay As You Go by simply filling up.... so... you pays your money and takes your choice

If every motorway was a Toll road - just imagine the congestion on the A and B roads throughout the UK Shocked

Raise the driving age limit to 21 - and lower it for those at the other end of the limit - ie. Old Age Pensioners. perhaps re testing should be an annual thing for them after 65/70 Confused

We already have PAYG driving....its called fuel duty. That is on top of the never ending rises to Vehicle Tax (conveniently renamed from Road Tax), parking charges, congestion zone access, etc etc.

From where i'm sitting we pay far too much already. Adding road tolls would be a bridge too far and would cause unrest of the highest order.......hence why the gov't have reconsidered this move. L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!
