United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Petrol or Diesel

Does anyone have the fuel consumption figures for Petrol and Diesel range rover sport as with the price of diesel climbing almost daily I am beginning to wonder if petrol might be better value as I run a tdv6.

Hi Emma.

General concensus on the forum is that with a TDV6 (From personal experience) you can expect between 22 - 26mpg where as the S/C petrol you will be looking between 12 - 15mpg.

Check out the post by Gixerbloke where Pauloamore and myself laid down some calculations.

Based on 7k miles p.a. the difference in fuel cost is between c. 800GBP and 1,200GBP depending on driving style, conditions and mix of urban/motorway driving.

Hope this helps Thumbs Up Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I think diesel will need to get considerably more expensive to buy to allow a car like a petrol RRS to be more economical in terms of how much you spend at the pumps every month. But certainly, where the mpg figures of petrol and diesel variants are much closer it makes petrol worth looking at again Thumbs Up

SuperT is right in what he says, with extremes running as low as 8-10mpg for the SC and over 30mpg reported by diesels on occasion. There were a few comments when the TDV8 came out that it seemed to be reporting better mpg figures than the TDV6.

Ive got the TDV8, If i dont reset the trip meter im getting consistanly around 22mpg (with alot of spirited town driving thrown in). On a motorway run when i reset it its between 26-30mpg for regular speeds. As low as 22-24 if you had access to an autobahn Laughing .

Im pretty sure the SC would half the MPG on average and diesel isnt twice the price of petrol (yet) so im happy.

I've got the 4.4 petrol. I've been getting an average of 18mpg, which increases to 24mpg on a motorway run and decreases to about 16mpg when I'm having fun with it. It's marginally slower than the S/C (1 sec 0-60 and 10mph top end). Hands up anyone who has actually gone at 140mph in their S/C RRS.
I've recently "altered" my exhaust and I'm consistently seeing 1-2 mpg better consumption. Not sure why?
It probably costs me more in fuel than a diesel would, but I'm happy with it.
Hope this helps.
