Spend £30k on an SC or stretch to £40k for a TDV8?

Advice welcome please.

Having now sold my cars, I'm in a position to buy an RRS. I'm happy to buy privately and my mileage is relatively low - say 4-5k per annum.

I've driven both cars and think they're both great although I do feel on the SC that when you put your foot down, the fuel gauge is sliding to the left!

For £30k, I think I can get a 2006 SC and I know of a couple of people that have sold 2007 TDV8's for £39-40k. My theory is that the TDV8's have further to fall than the SC and interested in views on resale.

I would be interested to know from people the cost of filling each car and the range that can be achieved and whether there is anything I should look out for, for example do people have views on the perforated leather seats which I don't think looks as good as later models?

Thanks for reading.

Robbie

Robbie,

How long do you normally keep your cars? Save 10k and getting a SC seems a good option to me

I've updated my fuel consumption sheet for you and with today's prices of fuel.

Assuming 4500 miles per annum, you will spend £550 more per annum over the TDv6, less compared to the TDv8. So, get a fully loaded SC, save the cash, enjoy the performance. 2022 P440e AB

Thats saying you will get 15 out of the Supercharged? Misery what you getting nowadays?

Also, if your financing the purchase, the figures will prob work out same/cheaper on the TDV8 due to higher residuals, plus its newer, so more time on the warranty and you can stretch out the finance over longer.. and the 4.2 SC will be going soon, so the TDV8 is the newer engine.. The TDV8 at £40k ish, is a good buy.. Mileage is probably a lot higher on the SC at that price also..

I don't know though.. it is a personal choice, and how much miles etc you're doing.. im a sucker for the V8 engine rumble as well, so wouldn't know what to do myself either.. not a bad decision to have to make though.. enjoy your testdrives! Very Happy

Yup, My SC is running at 15.4 at the moment.

Higher residuals on the TDv8.
- True but the SC is cheaper to buy, same age etc.

The TDv8 is taking an amazing beating isn't it? Somewhat similar to the SC last year. SC must be depreciating faster now, from new. But it can't still be loosing £1k a month... Can it? You are the expert though... 2022 P440e AB

.....give it 12 more months of recent madness and a SC will be either illegal or worthless. The TDv8 might just survive the cut and still have some value. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

If i get a chance on monday, i will pull two examples, one cheap SC and one cheap TDV8 and will run some examples of residuals on both and will stick them on here.. Then going on running expenses etc, it should be easy to work out which will work out the best...

I have a feeling TDV8 would, but im also secretly hoping the SC will work out better, as i would love to justify one myself!! Also have Bham city council looking to exempt our company and let us license a RR SC 4.2 SE for one of our drivers, as a 'support vehicle' for one of our recent chauffeur job contracts.. so would love to buy a 4.2 SC RRS obviously for use for the company!... Thanks all for your replies - I'm about to set-off to look at the SC, and will let you know how I get on.

Well I've had a full on day!

As I'm also buying a 2-seater roadster, I've been to see an Alfa Romeo Spider, a BMW Z4 and an RRS 4.2 SC. My loan car for the weekend is a Honda S2000. I reckon I've done 650 miles today plus three test rides.

I was a bit disappointed with the SC because of the condition - it was an plate with 40k miles. It wasn't in very bad condition, just not 'mint' and therefore I feel I'm likely to go for the TDV8 and pay more, but will obviously get a newer, lower mileage car.

If anyone is selling or aware of a TDV8 in black (and preferably black interior) in excellent condition, then I'd be grateful to hear.

Thanks all for your comments.

By the way, I liked all of the roadsters but for different reasons for each!!
