I think it is a great looking car the Toerag. I just don't thin I could justify laying out that much on a VW when there are other, more desirable options.

We drove the V6 Tdi before plumping for the Sport but it failed to make the final 3 (Which was RRS Vs ML Vs X5) Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Is it me or does the interior look just a bit plasticky? Never been in a Toerag so no personal experience to go on. They manage to make it look better than Porsche have managed to make the Cayenne look, given they're brothers so to speak.

I really liked the interior of the Toerag so i'd say it's just the photo.

2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I just swapped my TDV8 for a 6 month old 110 sx. Its the nuts, no saving in fuel/tax but depreciation is very low and it does what it says on the tin. Not as refined as the RRS but with the spare cash I can get a little sporty number to use when I dont need the space.

The RRS was always an in between car for me, it not a luxury car like the FFRR, its not a good load people carrier like the discovery (7 seats and big boot when not in use).

The one thing it does do is look great, thats why I bought it.

Loosing £1,000 a month in depreciation in addition to £400 car tax and £450 for an oil change (I have no idea what thats about) drove me to the change.

I've always like the Touareg - I agree with SuperT that the interior is nicer than the RRS - in fact the RRS interior is a bit dissappointing for the price compared to most of the competition (imho). I agree its a lot of cash for a VW, however when you can get a 'almost' fully loaded V6 3.0tdi Altitude for 11k off book with 4k miles on the clock its a lot more tempting.

We've been thinking very much along the same lines as Nick.

Yes, we don't want to be told what to spend our money on and no we don't intend on being bullied out of our nice cars. But then it boils down the basic economics and the Income effect when unproportionally high spending on cars hits you elsewhere.

What we're doing, with the V70 (highest tax band, lots of CO2, 18mpg etc...) is this.... Usually we keep a car 3-4 years, sell it and spend that money plus a few grand more to buy another new car. Well, when it gets to 3-4 years, we're going to keep the V70. Why wouldn't we? It does everything, brilliantly. The extra few grand which usually helps buy the new car will more than offset these extra running costs and a surplus will be left over for some nice new alloys and a new Sat Nav disc Thumbs Up

We're still drinking fuel, polluting the sky - but we're enjoying one of the best vehicles we've owned and our Darling isn't stopping us - physically or financially. Thumbs Up "CY from DISCO3"

bailing out...

i find myself struggling with this too, i love cars and currently have 3, an e30 for the track, a 964 cos i always wanted a 911 and a Disco 3 as my daily driver. I really want to swop the d3 for a RRS, but deep down its not sensible ,,,depreciation on the d3 has been £500 per month and the space comes in really useful for the annual holiday and trips to the tip, my youngests' Honda fits in the back no problem...i really like it. But the RRS is a great looker, a better drive....but how bad is depreciation going to be in the future not to mention the cost of diesel, i wonder whether a FFRR with LPG is a better option ?....same space, more luxurious, cheaper to buy (second hand) and cheaper to run...

tormented.... i am driving the GF mad
Rick

Glad to hear I'm not the only owner here who is feeling the pinch and worrying about my investment in my car.........a merc CLS looks like a tempting proposition...

cls option

the cls is interesting, but i don't know whether i could go back to a saloon car, i love the practicality of a big motor, depends if one has kids i suppose.

Audi s6 estate might be an option for me

I keep trying to get back into a Saloon car and keep failing miserably

VW Touareg => BMW 5 Touring => RRS => AUDI A6 Allroad => VW Touareg

I just cant get excited about saloon cars anymore
