Site Sponsor Thoughts?? - Chiping in Hampshire?

Loving the site, the banter and info Thumbs Up I was going to post this in the tips and mods, but thought more general would prompt a better thread.......

A Hypothetical question? If a member was to get there RRS "chipped" "tuned" or "remapped" or whatever you want to call it, where does that leave a site sponsor like a Land Rover Dealer say?

Surely there would be a grey area if that dealer was carrying out Warranty work?

Or could/would they refuse as they would know from the forum that such mods had been carried out?

I know part of the answer is not to post that the work has been done, but as we all know "referals" are the best part of checking the forum before you taking the plunge Bow down

You don't have to take your RRS to a Land Rover dealer for servicing these days, just to a service outlet that does the work using LR parts and to the same standard....................... there are plenty of non-franchised LR specialists around if you look in the back of the LR magazines - even JE Engineering or Overfinch will carry out servicing and they aren't main dealers and I assume not connected to the LR service computer system as far as I know. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Continuing on from that thought, some of LR's vehicle information through the OBD is encrypted and can only be read by LR's testbook (tho others are working on de-crypting it) so make sure your independant has the Testbook. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Site sponsor Bell Autos may be able to put you in touch with someone local to you, Wokka... other than that and if you fancy being fleeced, a short trip down to Overfinch in Farnham? I'm led to believe they buy their upgrades in from Turbochip though so you're bound to get them cheaper elsewhere.

I read an article in the Metro this week that said Chipping would invalidate the warranty and insurance if not declared as a modification.

Is that correct or is it non detectable?

I would really like to chip my RRS but am concerned about both.

Cant see the point in paying £400 a year to an insurer if hes not going to pay out when needed.

You certainly should declare it to your insurer. Your warranty can only be voided if the chip can be attributed to causing the problem, but this effectively anything associated with propelling the vehicle eg engine, transmission, ECU. If you do a search on 'Chipping' you will find plenty of discussion on here. The end result is it comes down to risk assessment. Though every time you get in your car you are taking a risk - with your life! Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

I approached my insurance company and they said they wouldnt even consider allowing me to 'chip' my car unless it was an approved LR product or accessory!

The insurance guy told me that they had 'noted' my enquiry on my records which could be cited in any future claim.....guess that's legal jargon for " we're watching you...."

Sad

bex,

personally if that was said to me then I'd then cancel my policy with them immediately and go elsewhere - such a statement would really p*ss me off
