Damn those tyre gremlins...

P Censored d off to find a nail in one of the front tyres this week.

Mrs ST set off driving the Sport and said it felt like it was pulling to the right (F O/S tyre flat as pancake) and as driven on it the rim had gone through to the wire on the sidewall.

TBH, both fronts needed changing as managed to eek out 24,000 miles on the 20" Conti's.

So went to see local tyre place and got quotes to replace both fronts:

Conti's = 450 Euro each = 900 Euro + fitting/Bal etc.

He suggested Michelin Diamara which he managed to do for 370 Euro each so cost me 740 Euro's.

This works out in Sterling as Conti £360 each, Michelin £296 each.

Still seems a f Censored g rip off to me but still managed to save a chunk.

Tyres seem fine.

How do these prices compare and has anyone had experience of Diamara's? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

That is one expensive place for tyres, the thieving Censored 's.

Avg price for Conti's here: £230-250 a corner. LR will replace them at £200 a corner if you ask nicely at your local stealer.

I use Hankook's and they are brilliant Thumbs Up Much harder wearing than the Conti's and personally, I think they handle much better. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up £100-125 a corner for these.

I used to have Diamara's on the BMW X5, from memory they were the tyre choice for BMW on their soft roader. For me they were neither impressive nor unimpressive, just an average tyre, albeit expensive. Used to pay about £200-275 a corner for those and that was over 3 years ago. Nope. Local Jag dealer offered me an elongated test drive, so I said yes!! I agree, however unfortunately most people associate, as they do with the RRS.........

Mercedes E63 517 big horses, looks nice etc etc - 1st few comments when I went to both the pub AND work this morning (unfortunately, not at the same time!!) was "oh, a fast taxi" or "private hire companies must be doing well".......

pretty much as we get "oh no, it's a drug dealer"..........

Naturally a mentality thing, but these comments come from professional, well to do people who have big budgets for cars..........in fact, the sole reason 2 people at work who had saved for their ultimate Mercs, sold them within a few months of ownership......sad, but very true. They now ride around in glorified Mondeo's, I mean 3 series BMW's....see, even i'm at it now!! Whistle Whistle Whistle L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!
