Bonnatti Grey Colour code - Variations?

Hi everyone, my first post on here and I need a bit of help!

I have had my car colour coded and the shade of bonnatti grey they have used is slightly darker than the original paint!

Apparantly there are 3 variations to this code! I have spoken to Land rover and they give me the standard colour code.

Has anyone else had any experience of this? It is getting re-done next week so hopefully they will get it right this time!

Thanks for your help

Mark

Now that’s interesting !

I had my SC grille & vents colour coded in Java. Got the colour code from LR for Java & my mate got the paint mixed accordingly. However, when the grille & vents were put on the car, there’s a subtle shade difference. The colour being ever so slightly more grey than the body colour.

We just thought the paint shop made a mess of the mix, or something like that.

So I wonder now, is there a few different Java’s as well ??

Guess it could be why they always look for a VIN number, when you order parts. I just asked for the colour code for Java. Not thinking there could be different shades Confused

Anyway, welcome to the site M4RKUS Thumbs Up

It's quite common for there to be variations in colour code. The bodyshop should be able to get a perfect match from VIN no. or if the painter's good enough, from colour cards.

Landrover's not so bad, but with companies like VW who have assembly plants all over the place, you have to be careful to get the right codes.

M4RKUS, why did you have to get the colour code and not the bodyshop?

The exact colour code for all Land Rovers is on the plate under the bonnet and on top of the radiator / grille, the same plate that has the VIN number on it. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

hI Leo,

They selected the colour code themselves and guessed the colour from the colour code cards.

I have spoken to Land rover and they cant give me the EXACT variation from the VIN! they just say bonnatti grey and give the LRC no.

I am going to get the body shop to mixup all 3 variations and spray some bits too see which is the right colour!

TBH I think they just picked the standard colour which I think was the darkest shade on the card and didn't think to do a test first to see the match!

cheers

In that case, M4RKUS, they should redo the parts! Don't pay them until they fix it, if you've already paid then keep pushing until they agree to fix their mistake.

Here is the plate I mean - my car is Stornoway Grey which has paint code LRC 907. Your paintshop should be able to type this into their paint mixing computer and get the recipe out to make up the colour - Halfords have just made up a paint stick for me and it was the guy in there who showed this info.

Tim, even though all Stornoways will have the same code (LRC907) printed on the VIN plate, there are often slight differences in individual cars and the paint needs to be mixed accordingly. Thumbs Up

I am going to throw another spanner in the works here, because there are also 3 different sizes of metallic particle that goes into the paint mix, thus the paint can be more reflective or less reflective. Its therefore possible to end up with panels different colours and / or more reflective than the others.

I had a similar problem to the original post, bloody infuriating but stick out until its right!

And also paint shows as a dif colour on plastics as opposed to metals - silver being the ideal case to show that up...

Which is another possibility why my side vents & grille show as a slightly greyer shade of Java to the rest of the car Thumbs Up

Really only shows up in direct sunlight though, but annoying nonetheless Sad
