Excuse my ignorance but does Cat D mean it has already been written off and repaired, because if it does then the insurer should already have been aware of that from the Insurance Company database. However if he didn't tell them as well on the proposal then they don't like non-disclosures like that............................. and he has probably just waved goodbye to £8k and the cost of repairing the other party's car and may even find that he cannot get cover in the future........................ in the current financial climate insurers are looking for any excuse not to pay out or to take on a bad risk 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Cat D means its already been written off and repaired. However, it is perfectly reasonable to do this and it is also conceivable that the current owner does not know of the cars history (unless he was the person who wrote it off in the first place). I would have said that the responsibility for that kind of information lay with the Insurance company, not the owner.
