Oh dear. Once you've saved it Excel, not unreasonably, presumes you wanted to do it and clears away the previous autosaves. Sorry mate, but I think that sheet is a gonner without getting forensics in

in my understanding, the new file will actually be saved into a different drive sector - implying the old one will still exist on the drive, although not referenced - correct or wrong? |

By forensics I mean a highly skilled IT forensics chap (they usually work for the Police or government agencies) who specialises in recovering metadata from filesystems. Don't tell me the data is THAT important!

Only was possible is if your firm has an IT department that can run a recovery tape - from the previous night - just saves work on a daily basis and they can run the tape with the excel sheet before the deletion was made....only way forward |
