Diesel chip-tuning: box or remap?

hi there

I do understand that a full remap is better for turbo-petrol engines as throttle increases airflow and a remap will increase both timing and fuel and boost.

However in turbo-diesels throttle controls fuel quantity (maybe injection timing as well), air and turbo boost to be increased as fuel q-ty increases. At low revs fuel seems to be key, and that is exactly where I think the TDV8 needs some improvement.

therefore box-tuning that operates fuel quantity seems like a good solution for turbodiesels... Autologic-diagnos sells boxes as well. Arden also sells boxes. A member of a forum I frequent has an Arden box installed and he quotes power and torque increase, fuel efficiency preserved...

Considering that dealers are not too loyal with warranty application over here a box seems like a better solution...

Prove me wrong... Again, I am ONLY talking turbodiesels, and the turbolag on the TDV8 is everannoying... Cheers,

Jazzz, there are countless threads here discussing this topic if you search. Generally, the plugin solutions are not regarded as well as an actual remap, although if you are worried about warranty issues then you obviously have a decision to make Very Happy

I had mine re-mapped and am really pleased with it. Certainly better pick up from standing start, better overall acceleration, better fuel economy,sounds better, everyone's happy. Had it done by D-Tech in Leeds, very friendly, knowledgable and helpful.

just had my TDV8 RRS chiptuned by a Tunit box.

It is adjustable, positions 1 through 9. Comes in set to 5. Tested it at 5 and 8 and ended up setting it to 9 (max).
Well, while it does not improve the turbo lag, GAWD does it improve the overall handling!!

Dont know how it performs in the long run, but at this stage I AM IMPRESSED.

Not sure about fuel economy and how correct the trip computer readings will be (after all, it tampers with the injectors' operating signals), but it does handle great now.
