Nice work if you can get it

I hear on the financial news this morning that the chairman of Barclay's Bank has had a £22million bonus this year despite profits being down on last and the bank writing off £100millions for sub-prime loans. I wonder what the basic salary is a the chairman of a multinational bank receives - I'm sure most of us could live of that very nicely thank you without even touching the bonus.
Seems perverse that the bank can pay him (and no doubt the other directors as well) such a huge bonus yet it has to go cap in hand to the government for emergency funding....................... are we getting something wrong here 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Wasn't it the guy who runs their investment banking arm? He earned £36m last year apparently... Confused There's silly money to be earnt in the financial sector. I often kick myself I went into IT and not finance Censored

Once you get to that level I don't think the minor irritation of underperformance stops you from getting bonused.

I know a fair few guys who worked in The City - a fair few are burnt out by the time they are 40 but on the plus side they have £millions in the bank. On the downside once they have been forced into retirement their wives get a bit annoyed with them around the house all day and divorce them and take the money with them. Would it though? £5m for you, £5m for me.... unless I was greedy (mmm, doughnuts) then I wouldn't be complaining.

His department did make around £2bn profit and most of his pay was in the form of Barclays shares so he is pretty tied into the fortunes of the company Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate
