Long Term Car Storage

What would i need to consider if i wanted to take the range TDV8 off the road for 3 months? Crying or Very sad I mean in maintenance terms not road tax ect..

Car cover and in a garage would be fine?
Would it be smarter to run it in first?
Or just drive it once a week as oposed to keeping it stationary?

Mine sits on the drive for a month or so at a time (this was the reason for getting my Dad insured to drive it!) sometimes for up to 3 months. It is best to give it a decent run every month if you can - not a "round the block" type run I mean 40-50 mile type run and let it stretch it legs after it has warmed through. Also when you put it away again after giving it a good clean, make sure that you leave it in access height so all the electronics go to sleep. If you live near to Jaymann or VA then I'm sure they would love to give it a circuit of the M25 every month for you!
One thing to watch out for is the EPB binding on, it hasn't happened with my TDv8 yet, but when I had the TDv6 it used to bind on even after a week of being laid up - just make sure that where-ever you store it that, if necessary, you can give it a bit of welly to break off the EPB - you need to have a bit of a clear run out!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

ok cool, giving it a run once a month even week not a huge issue! Plenty of people who would be able to drive it. Just not me. Ill just sit in the back and act important Laughing . So would it be better to leave the EPB off?

On both my RRS's it has engaged itself after a while so there's no way you can over-ride it! As I mentioned above, with my TDv8 it hasn't been an issue so maybe LR have done some modifications. My previous RRS was a very early one built in March 2005 - 3 months before launch. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim, the Carcoon is by far the best option but I'm not sure the RRS, even with mirrors folded in, will quite fit, width-wise. They cost about tuppence a day to run and can easily be demounted even by fathers (like me) for a little local pipe-opener. Have a look http://www.carcoon.co.uk/ They do outside ones as well as in-bothie and can even be blue or red! Highly recommended, and, usual disclaimer.

Cornelius thanks for the info. the RRS would just fit inside with the mirrors folded but a Freelander2 or Disco would not! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Good Thumbs Up Better than the alternative of taking it with you in a container, especially at Mr Maersk's rates! Smile

How much is a breathable dust cover for the sport?

Ive found a few companies around london who offer good de humidified car storage for about £300-£400 for 12 weeks. Such as http://www.autovault.co.uk/. What do you guys reckon?

They say they charge a small fee to remove the car during an ongoing storage period. Which i assume means you have to give it back. This would be cool. Could pop down once a month just to give it a ~50 mile drive.

One thing to remember is to lock it down in access hight so the car goes to sleep, if not your battery will be flat in less than a week ... just ask Mrs Catt Whistle Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh
